Of course, something else happened, beginning in the late fifties into the sixties — the uprisings and growing numbers of citizens taking part in popular dissent — against the Vietnam War, against racism, against destruction of the environment in a growing corporatized culture, against misogyny, against homophobia. Where did much of that revolt incubate? Where did large numbers of well-educated, intellectual, and vocal people congregate? On college campuses.

So: here is the recipe for killing universities, and you tell ME if what I’m describing isn’t exactly what is at the root of all the problems of our country’s system of higher education.
(Because what I’m saying has more recently been applied to K-12 public education as well.)

First, you defund public higher education...

Second, you deprofessionalize and impoverish the professors (and continue to create a surplus of underemployed and unemployed Ph.D.s)...

Step #3: You move in a managerial/administrative class who take over governance of the university...

Step Four: You move in corporate culture and corporate money...

Step Five – Destroy the Students...

7. Grading to the scale instead of making the students achieve.

If there is neither money nor honor in the career, people will stop working toward attaining said career - unless they enjoy "impoverished deprofessionalism"- then the candidates are getting exactly what they want, meaning there is no point to listing this complaint at all.

Devils advocate here and all that Fla Gator... I think the problem runs deeper than that.

My take:
First of all... the fruit don't fall far from the tree. You come from  middle class parents that are say a teacher and an accountant. Chances are you gonna have pretty good grades. Genetics play a big roll in it and the parents are gonna make sure that you get good grades.

I remember growing up if we'd come home with less than straight A's, life sucked for Perky and his sibs. All of us. Didn't matter which one was the malefactor, we all suffered. Peer pressure and all that.

What do we have now? Generational welfare. Irresponsible people having multiple kids. No work ethic, no role model, and the genes are against the kids. Simple fact of life. Add in the fact that you do not have the family unit, these kids have no chance.

My 2 cents... we are paying for the welfare class to outbreed us. Another liberal idea gone wrong.

I attended the University of Illinois for one year , '79 to '80.   Students were fairly conservative at that time.  There were several times that students were forced to take down anti-Iranian/pro-American banners from dormitory windows.

These days, I'm sure that anti-American/pro-Iranian banners would be encouraged by the staff.

Turn the institution into a 95% leftist group think organization. That will kill anything. IMHO, 65% and above left is certain death. Then the percentage of brain dead leftists increases geometrically with the only throttle being death. Hits 65% and sighs of death will be within 15 years.

The college/university system would have collapsed 15 years ago but for free money and basically free student loans. The plethora of loans and grants made degrees of Ancient Angry Asian Lesbians available. The aforementioned provide ZERO to society moving forward. You know, I'd debate the DUmmies all day long on education related matters.  I'm one of the "problem parents" at the local elementary school.  Why am I a problem?  Because I insist that my kids receive an education superior to my education.  

I read well enough in second grade to handle books like "The Black Stallion".  My daughter could not hack it.  Logically her education missed something.  My first grade teacher taught phonics, her first grade teacher looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned phonics.  My education was superior, if education techniques currently applied were superior my daughter would have been able to read the novel and not stumble over the word "knife".  My son is getting and education in phonics this summer, before first grade, he is already the best reader in his class.

In my elementary school, we started learning times tables after Christmas break in third grade and were expected to have mastered up to twelve times table by the end of the year, just to be average.  My daughter's math education bounced around so much that it made me dizzy.  I intervened and had her learn the times tables by rote.  I'm told that she is the single most advanced student in her grade in math.

Don't even get me started on history.  They just plain don't teach it to any sort of standard.  Except for African-American history.  They teach that to the detriment of everything else.

I constantly question teachers, administrators, and the school board about why they are failing to set higher standards for education.  They give some lame answer about teaching a test.  The thing is, there are a lot of parents of all persuasions in this community that are just as frustrated but don't know what to do.  If I was going to try and stay, I think a run for school board might be something I would do.

Just want to point out the dimwit specifically quoted "we are paying for the welfare class to outbreed us" and called it "racist."  Since when has "welfare class" been a race?  I've filled out lots of forms that ask for my race and have seen where I can check American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, or White.  But I've never seen one where you can check "welfare class."

The buzzy primitive is too stupid to know welfare class isn't a race. As is typical of libs, they redefine terms (or misuse them altogether) to prop up their strawman arguments and then act like they made a point.

Who's the racist BC?  I don't see anything in that 'quote' that indicates a race in any shape or form.  Have you made an ASSumption?

To the best of my recollection there are more whites on welfare than any other race.  They're takers, we're producers.  I don't care what race they are or what their religious beliefs are.  Most of them are nothing more than takers and have no desire to be anything but takers.
