FBI requests for data on Americans up 1000% since 2009

Not surprising given recent revelations about the NSA, but as Michael Isikoff points out, the massive increase in requests for business records by the FBI under a provision in the Patriot Act, represents a sea change in the government's attitude toward privacy.

Dori, the problem isn't really that they ask for it but that they get it but that the FISA court approval rate indicates they are rubber stamping requests and then further eroding privacy rights by likely sharing info

What I found interesting about this article, was down a few paragraphs;

"We've gone from producing records for a particular investigation to the production of all records for a massive pre-collection database. It's incredibly sweeping."

And that mission is precisely why they didn't catch the Boston terrorist or the "workplace violence" terrorist

They are focusing on who they want to believe are terrorists.  Middle aged, white, conservative, ex-military, pro-life christians. The last one is not a requirement for the other ones.
