It's been nothing but downhill in that area ever since Marion Barry set up shop in the DC maryor's office.  Before Mayor for life Barry, DC used it's fovorable position with lots of military  close by to recruit heavily for their police force.  At the time, it was one of the best in the country.  Marion Barry totally dismantled that system and now DC recruits almost exclusively from DC residents, which they claim is fair.

Now, the DC Police have little effective control of the city near where these DUmmies live and no control of it at night.  Ward 8 is the sort of place where you roll up your window and lock the doors if you have to drive through, even if your AC is broke and it's late July.  These thugs can jump on the metro, go over to waterfront, committ there crimes and jump back on the metro and be gone before the polie ever show up to take a report, and they know it.

Kinda like MARTA. There's a reason Cobb County told Atlanta to go **** themselves when they wanted to extend MARTA into Marietta, Smyrna, etc.

DC has been a shithole since I guess the 1960s. It had a reputation for high crime rate even way before Obama was in the White House.
