Oh my.

It's always highly entertaining, watching the primitives wiggle-waggle their arm-pits discussing the Bible.

Religious Scholars: 'Biblical' Marriage Not Strictly One Man, One Woman.

The debate about marriage equality often centers, however discretely, on an appeal to the Bible. Unfortunately, such appeals often reflect a lack of biblical literacy on the part of those who use that complex collection of texts as an authority to enact modern social policy.

As academic biblical scholars, we wish to clarify that the biblical texts do not support the frequent claim that marriage between one man and one woman is the only type of marriage deemed acceptable by the Bible’s authors.

The fact that marriage is not defined as only that between one man and one woman is reflected in the entry on “marriage” in the authoritative Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible (2000): “Marriage is one expression of kinship family patterns in which typically a man and at least one woman cohabitate publicly and permanently as a basic social unit” (p. 861).

The phrase “at least one woman” recognizes that polygamy was not only allowed, but some polygamous biblical figures (e.g., Abraham, Jacob) were highly blessed. In 2 Samuel 12:8, the author says that it was God who gave David multiple wives: “I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom. ... And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more” (Revised Standard Version).

Now if they want to take the Bible literally let them, actually, I dare them.

Then came others after David, who noted that it was an institution between one man and one woman.  I guess the DUmp moknies don't like what is said in Sodom and Gomorrah either.

One man and at least one women still doesn't provide biblical support for homosexual marriage.

In some ways, our current divorce/remarriage phenomenon that is so common could be considered a form of serial polygamy

Why should I or any other believer listen to the arguments of atheists who hate and despise me and my faith?

Why should I listen when swine trample pearls of truth and twist scripture to say what they want? If they don't believe the very scripture they quote, why should I even give them the time of day?

I am always amazed when atheist bigots (who have never read the Bible) claim to be better biblical experts than believers who love and honor the Words of God.
DUmmies fear and loathe Christians and the Bible...how do they get to be experts? Probably the same way they get to be smarter than all other men on earth, by self proclamation.

DUmmies debating the Bible is pretty much like nadin debating anything.
“Don’t vote for the person who tells you you deserve something. Just don’t do it if it’s something other than life, liberty, or the pursuit of possible happiness. If everyone is telling you you deserve something, vote for the one who is promising you the least. Be suspicious of the man or woman who tell you deserve everything. Because you don’t.” ---Mike Rowe

Why do DUmpmonkeys debate something they know nothing about?

Aw, crap, never mind.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Okay.  Some Old Testament figures were polygamous.  What does the bible say about homosexuality?

Twisting is the only way they can make a point, such that it is.  They have no intellectual basis other than false equivalence.

The Bible makes it abundantly clear that people have been messing up God's Laws ever since the very first Law.  That some tried polygamy does not change the very clear, and repeated, insistence: For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh

There are no options for 2 men, 2 women, polygamy...or divorce without infidelity.  Obviously, people don't manage this well...

Okay.  Some Old Testament figures were polygamous.  What does the bible say about homosexuality?

This is the odd thing about their thread - one can spend one's entire life searching all 73 books, but one will find not the slightest shred of evidence in favour of homosexuality or gay-marriage.

Besides, aren't they always claiming that slippery slope arguments from gay-marriage to polygamy don't apply?

Usually about this time in a lib created artificial controversy they ask WWJD.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.
