DUmmies hate high school Valedictorian over a prayer

There is just no way I can get even just all of the choice bits of this thread, but needless to say, their hatred of all things religous, and especially Christian or Jewish is on full display.

Valedictorian Recites Lord’s Prayer at Graduation
A school district under pressure to keep prayer out of meetings and gatherings got an unexpected delivery from one high school valedictorian.

Saturday, at Clemson's Littlejohn Coliseum, Liberty High Valedictorian Roy Costner IV took his speech to the podium, and in front of the crowd, tore it up.

John Eby, Pickens County School District spokesman, said, "They write their speeches. They send them to someone on staff to have them approved."

But Costner clearly had something else in mind.

After speaking for a few minutes, he thanked his parents for leading him to the Lord at a young age, and then he said, "I think most of you will understand when I say, 'Our Father, who art in heaven…" as he began to recite the Lord's Prayer...

http://christiannews.net/2013/06/04/valedictorian-rips-up-approved-speech-on-stage-recites-lords-prayer-at-graduation/

Kudos to him.  He should have the right to speak his mind, he earned it.

123. When those beliefs sanction sexism, racism and homophobia

they deserve no respect.

Those beliefs - those racist, sexist and homophobic beliefs - are the RESULT of the religious teachings THEY CHOOSE to follow.

Here's the reality of life: in western nations with little to no religious beliefs, the quality of life is better for all citizens.

Now why, if religion is all about doing unto others is this the case?

Because religion as taught in the U.S., especially in the south, is overwhelmingly about punishing those deemed to be "other" in this society.

Nothing in that to respect.

Still not clear on the whole hate the sin, love the sinner concept are you?

226. I get so bored with this attack

When someone has an opinion about religion, that others don't like, the constant rebuttal is "oh, you think you're so superior."

No. I'm saying - if you want to bring your religious beliefs into public life, then others have just as much right as you do to ask you why you believe the things you do and think you have the right to impose your religion on others' lives.

That includes asking for proof of claims made.

If someone has no proof - which is what faith comes down to - or, imo, the best way to describe it is, as Kierkegaard did, as "insanity," i.e. removed from reality - then it is entirely within the right of others to question the basis of those beliefs. This is the religion that is honest - that admits it has no reality to buttress its claims.

The JOKE in all of this is that, for centuries Christians have imposed their beliefs on others. Now when others say - stop this shit - it's all whining and gnashing of teeth.

He continues onf for a bit without saying anything.

Yet you believe the government will come to you and cater to your every whim.

101. Doesn't change the reality their beliefs are WRONG.

I think it says a lot about american education that an educated person can still believe in religion. Where do modern people learn to tolerate only what they want to hear and not like to hear that their views are wrong?

I'd bet on you being really surprised after you shuffle off your mortal coil.

64. WHAT did this kid stand for?

The right to shove religion in everyone else's faces? If he really had any convictions he'd attend a private evangelical Christian school if he couldn't handle the secular REAL WORLD in public school.

Some posts here make me wonder if posters are undercover spies from certain other forums.

Would you have supported the government giving him a voucher, really their own taxes, to attend the private evangelical school?  Yeah, I thought so.  The REAL WORLD is no place for religion, huh.  Yeah, every oppressive society from Cromwell's England, to revolutionary France, to the worldwide communist countries, to Mexico after it's socialist revolution refused to allow religion in the REAL WORLD.  Maybe it's because somebody actually quoting from the bible and telling the truth of what it says is a threat to the state.

Later, he went before congress and recited a list of the political accomplishments of all our previous presidents and dedicated it to white males everywhere. The white males cheered. What's wrong with that? Most everyone there was a white male. It's their *******ed heritage. They deserve to make sure everyone is constantly reminded of their dominance, with all present coerced into tacit complicity for the sake of decorum and for the maintenance of social status. What a ****ing hero.

What bullying assholes people are. And lovers of them.

How many reverends signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution?  That alone kind of blows your notion that the founding fathers weren't religous out of the water.  Those troops wearing blue and marching south?  They weren't motivated by humanism to put their lives on the line to free slaves.  Truman prayed on National Radio to give thanks to the "almighty God" that he had seen fit to give the Allies a final victory in WWII.  Christians did build this country.  Secularists like you are hell bent on destroying it.

17. What an inconsiderate jerk.

Just because youve got a captive audience, doesnt mean you should jam your religious blahblah down their throats. Theres a place for people who want to hear that kind of thing to go. Its called church. A smart kid should know that. Jerk.

So he can't recite the Lord's Prayer in a public setting?

23. The kid no doubt believed he was doing God's will.

It seems he was never taught what Christ had to say about people praying in public to show everyone how righteous they are. Christ clearly took a very dim view of people who put on performances such as this one.

His preacher and/or his parents probably put him up to it. Or maybe he came up with the idea on his own, and his preacher and/or his parents merely encouraged him to carry it out.

It also says not to "put your light under a barrel".  You didn't get to that part because you only know the parts of the bible convenient to you.

73. Which boss? He certainly wasn't obeying Christ.

Christ made it perfectly clear to his followers that prayer is supposed to be done in private. He had some pretty harsh words about people, like this kid, who make prayer into a public spectacle, for the purpose of showing everyone how righteous they are.

Book, Chapter, and Verse, please.  Also cite biblical scholars on this subject and historical context.  What Jesus said is that prayers must be true and not just for public consumption.

Why attend public school if you have so much faith? Brent Bozell recently complained "It is becoming impossible to express a socially conservative or Christian viewpoint --as a student." He is damn right it is because thinking people are TIRED of self righteous in your face evangelicals! As a good friend of mine once said if you are tired of "anti Christian values" also known as REALITY in public schools either suck it up out go to a fundamentalist Christian school!

Look alpo, you're a real piece of work.  Yes, people like you are making schools hostile to Christians and Christian values.  Though you have no idea what any of those values are.

122. An individual's faith or lack of faith is a supremely person matter

Not something that should be dictated by official government policy

I'm not going to judge a person's own faith, whatever my own particular beliefs or lack thereof.

If a valedectorian wanted to pray or not to pray and no government official sought to influence that decision one way or the other, that would be the best of all outcomes.

This may be the first instance of MrScorpio saying something intelligent.

There is more.  I swear I hear demon's howling when I read some of the DUmmie's posts about this.

The famous leftist tolerance of other people and other ideas.  It's all about diversity as long as everyone thinks the same.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

But since it's a DUmmie, if it is a dude, it has probably given a 'dick-tore-into-me' speech.
