Valedictorian reads Lords Prayer in protest
« on: June 06, 2013, 07:48:33 AM »
THIS GAVE ME FRIGGIN CHILLS!  His parents rock!

Quote
PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. —A school district under pressure to keep prayer out of meetings and gatherings got an unexpected delivery from one high school valedictorian

Saturday, at Clemson's Littlejohn Coliseum, Liberty High Valedictorian Roy Costner IV took his speech to the podium, and in front of the crowd, tore it up.

John Eby, Pickens County School District spokesman, said, "They write their speeches. They send them to someone on staff to have them approved."

But Costner clearly had something else in mind.

After speaking for a few minutes, he thanked his parents for leading him to the Lord at a young age, and then he said, "I think most of you will understand when I say, 'Our Father, who art in heaven…" as he began to recite the Lord's Prayer.
Much of the crowd broke into tentative applause that then grew into cheers that nearly drown out Costner's voice as he continued the prayer.

The kid should spend a night in jail.  He needs to learn how important rules, regulations, and laws are in this nation these days.   O-)

It does make a heart joyous.  That young man represents a voice among many voices.

64. WHAT did this kid stand for?

The right to shove religion in everyone else's faces? If he really had any convictions he'd attend a private evangelical Christian school if he couldn't handle the secular REAL WORLD in public school.

Some posts here make me wonder if posters are undercover spies from certain other forums.

To be fair, a number of the DUmmies defended the valedictorian.  Most were just assholes as usual though.

I thought it was just me that noticed that. It really was a beautiful thing to see, and loved the applause.

Yes, I thought it was interesting that teacher instinctively looked worriedly at the 'person-in-charge' before she took a  lesson in courage from the kid.

For me, it wasn't the prayer but the exercise of his free speech, and the reminder that leaders will naturally emerge when rights are trampled

I would expect them to get it back-asswards and they didn't disappoint, much like when they claim that gun-owners are fascists.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,

The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Amen.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.
-Napoleon Bonaparte

Allow enemies their space to hate; they will destroy themselves in the process.

That video is essentially a reminder to us all that, despite the annoying noise from the greatly outnumbered Left as they do their level best to destroy this nation, that the America we all cherish is still safe and sound.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~ Benjamin Franklin

Beautiful.  That is my favorite part at church.  When the whole church reads it outloud. O-)
