This would end most, if not all, wars.
http://www.constitutionfacts.com/us-constitution-amendments/proposed-amendments/

In 1916, a proposed amendment to the Constitution read that all acts of war should be put to a national vote. Anyone voting yes would have to register as a volunteer for service in the United States Army.

Also:

1876: the forbidding of religious leaders from occupying a governmental office or receiving federal funding

1933: an attempt to limit the personal wealth to $1 million

Check it out for interesting reading.

Um… no it wouldn’t.

Ban conscription, and keep the army volunteer-only.

Um…there is no conscription and the Army (and the rest of the military) is all volunteer…

7. I love that amendment about putting war to a national vote.

Most of the people who would be for wars would be military contractors, NRA types, and fake patriots like Ted Nugent. And under this amendment they'd have to serve.

What about right after 9/11/01? What do you think the people would have voted for?

Quote

19. A National vote would be interesting, as I don't believe we ever had one .....

I'm not aware of there ever having been a National vote on anything. All elections I am aware of are run by states or local governments. Even our vote for President is actually a state vote for a slate of Electors.

Not saying it couldn't be done, but it seems some new mechanism would be needed.

Old DUmpmonkie. We have a national vote every four years…

So when the Proglodytes say the Tea Party should be hunted down, churches taxed into obliteration, private corporations seized, the NRA declared a terrorists organization, guns seized by executive diktat and the police dispatched to teach those RW thumb-suckers what's-what they of course realize this will lead to a civil war.

They will also put this to a national referendum and anyone voting in favor of it will be conscripted.

Right?

Or is it only Muzzies and Commies we're supposed to feel guilty about killing? Killing Americans because they disagree politically is okee-dokee.

Someone read some early Heinlein "To Us, The Living".

How many wars have been PREVENTED due to America's strength and resolve? How many wars were ended by America's strength? How many human rights have been protected by American Soldiers, throughout our history?

That's OK, I didn't get permission from my mommy to enlist either and neither did she. It's called being an adult.

Now my grandfather did get his mother to sign him over as he was only 17 and was raring to go.

NO,NO we did it ourselves according to the libs to start a war to get us out of the depression. Hawaii was not a state then remember so technically we were not attacking ourselves as the Germans did when they dressed up in Polish uniforms and blew up something or other as an excuse to invade Poland.

Just like Bush had the twin towers attacked as an excuse to go to war some say.

Ah that FDR was a clever devil, the millions of people out of work, the bread lines and all, made sense to lower our population by a million or so, war time jobs for those unable to enlist or pass the physical to be drafted.  Then to put icing on the cake the GI bill that offered anyone who survived the war a free college education.   For those that did not want an education, the vets. were given first place for a Government job, woman were encouraged to give up their jobs so our returning survivors could take their place.

One would be surprised just how many believed this crap, some is true in any conspiracy theory but  by golly, nothing tops Obama and the theory's that will come about 10 years after he leaves office.

We still argue about dropping the Bomb on Japan.
