BUT. Since then the Enquirer broke a number of Rat stories, including catching John Edwards cheating on his dying wife.

This isn't playing to the far-left crowd, it's playing to the media, which is saturated with homos and has been selling 'This is normal' to the public without successful contradiction for 15 years.  It makes her golden with them, and turns anyone who attacks her horrible record into a homophobic bully in their coverage.
