Republican Holdover Petraeus Betrayed Obama on Benghazi to Protect His Own Reputation

The Washington Post reported late Tuesday that the emails released by the Obama administration reveal a rather shocking surprise. No, the Obama White House did not craft the Benghazi talking points to protect their reputation or that of the State Department. Nor did the State Department protect their image with “changes” to the talking points.

It was Republican hero, General David Petraeus, then the head of the CIA, who sought to burnish his image with demands to change the talking points. In fact, his version put him at “odds” with the State Department, the FBI, and officials within his own agency . . .

A close reading of recently released government e-mails that were sent during the editing process, and interviews with senior officials from several government agencies, reveal Petraeus’s early role and ambitions in going well beyond the committee’s request, apparently to produce a set of talking points favorable to his image and his agency.

The information Petraeus ordered up when he returned to his Langley office that morning included far more than the minimalist version that Ruppersberger had requested. It included early classified intelligence assessments of who might be responsible for the attack and an account of prior CIA warnings — information that put Petraeus at odds with the State Department, the FBI and senior officials within his own agency.

Ironically, given Republican claims going back to just hours after the attacks that killed four Americans, it was not the White House that tried to take over the talking points or craft them to appear in a more favorable light. In fact, the White House “played the role of mediator in the bureaucratic fight that at various points included the CIA’s top lawyer and the agency’s deputy director expressing opposition to what the director wanted.”

. . . So even by their own argument, at the end of the witch hunt, they are face to face not with their mortal enemies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, but their own hero and a Republican staffer or member of Congress.

I was delighted to see you this brought over.  It highlights just how out of touch and unable to comprehend the DUmmies are.  When I read the article I went to the article site to see if perhaps the article had been poorly edited, it was not.
If it is damning to tell the truth:

That's my take, also Petraeus wanted the truth to be put out, but the Whore House over rode that with their lies to protect Obama.  Then Petraeus is ousted for daring to want to tell the truth.

We've seen too many life long military members forced out under Obama.  That is one of the things that needs to be investigated when he is gone.

The real scandal in that was 0bama and his thugs knew all about Petraeus and his affair before he was appointed. They had hoped to use that information to keep him in line, and instead of allowing them to control him, he resigned. Now don't get me wrong the affair was a bad thing morally, and a bad thing since that left him open to blackmail and other bad things. He is to blame for getting naked with that woman, but I have no doubt in my mind that the 0bama thugs tried to exploit his problem.

It was the white house, including the chief propagandist, Jay Carney, and the state department who went around blaming the video. I am unaware of Petraeus or anyone else talking about the video. So the DUmmies want to believe that Petraeus was the one who cooked up this scheme and 0bama and his thugs were dumb enough to fall for it. For the smartest president ever he sure gets fooled by the repukes an awful lot.

Arms deals?  I swear I saw a story on that that disappeared almost as soon as it appeared.  It would also go a long way to explaining why the Republicans don't really want to go all boots and saddles into investigation of Benghazi ( if they knew of covert arms deals with Syria via Turkey ).

2 of the journalists had stories on the IRS and Lois Lerner. I think they both said heads should roll at the IRS. Then the stories about Petraeus and CIA talking points from NYTimes and another lefty site.  

They are definitely trying to deflect.  I can imagine that Obama is having a conniption, Valerie is pissed and looking for people to take out, and Michelle is PISSED this might get in the way of her Marie Antoinette lifestyle.  Oh to be a fly on the wall....

Could be one of any number of reasons.  Maybe Republican members knew and didn't speak out initially and are complicit in cover up and arms running themselves.  Maybe they are letting Obie get tangled in the IRS and AP stuff to ding up his credibility / approval  before lowering the boom of Benghazi.  If Obie and friends are busy running after the small brush fires it gives the major blaze a chance to develop from the back draft. It does seem awfully strange.

There was something about Chris Stevens being over there to buy back weapons from al Qaeda and it was something that the State Department was involved in, not the CIA.
