Beech---yep, that's the kind you want to carve your name in alright.
There's one down on the creek where some relatives carved their names and the date, July 14, 1914, you can still read it. They were part of the family that moved to Texas in the late 1800's. They came home by rail to visit and went swimming in the old swimming hole. I added my name to the tree over 40 years ago and it's still very readable. Wish I had put the date on there too.........just to lazy at the time I guess.
