Anyone here ever live on the street for any period?

I think I may end up there. Not due to financial circumstances, but due to emotional ones. Life long depression and anxiety. And the emotional development of a 15 year old in a 31 year old body, due to Social Anxiety and parents that have enabled me all my life. I'm kind of in a dark place.

I know I'm supposed to not want to end up living on the street. But it feels to me more life factual knowledge than something I myself feel instinctively. I have no gut reaction, no visceral feeling. My father says "you don't want to end up there" to which I answer a robotic "no" but some part of me really doesn't care it seems.

The truth is if it happens I most certainly deserve it what with the 100 and 1 opportunities I've squandered. And since I can't kill myself maybe it would be the next best thing to unburden my family of myself. At any rate. Has anyone here ever lived on the street for any period?

"Unburden my family of myself"?!!!? Good Lord! By his own accounts, it's obvious his parents love and support him. And he would repay that by torturing them by running off endangering himself, leaving them wondering every day if he is dead or alive. Let alone injured or imprisoned. He's overestimating his mental development. He's actually closer to a four or five year old.

Look, I have family members who have made all kinds of interesting choices, and I have to tell you, this post made me VERY angry with you.

Depression SUCKS. Are you getting it treated? If not, WHY NOT?

Here you are, with "squandered opportunities" and a family that is supporting you. Dude, your time is running out -- your parents are NOT always going to be here to foot the bills, and you have an OBLIGATION to make the world a better place.

I do not care how you do that - volunteering, working, raising a family, raising awareness -- we need you to make a contribution to the planet. And if you can't because you are suffering from crippling untreated depression, then google "therapist" or "free help with depression" and for the love of all that is holy, GET SOME HELP.

We need you. We need you DESPERATELY. There are so many people out here who don't have basic necessities, who are living on the edge of disaster, and WE NEED YOU to HELP.

Do you need medication? You live in Canada - GET ON IT. Do you need to stop self-medicating? THEN STOP. Do you need to control your blood sugar / eat a healthier diet? THEN DO IT.

Turn off the television, put away the distractions (whatever they are), and GET SOME HELP.

If you need some ideas of how you can help make the world a better place (and I am NOT talking about you leaving it), DUers will happily chip in and tell you about all the things we need done. I am *personally* completely overworked at the moment, and could really use some help re-vamping a website for a non-profit. Want to help?

We also have Wish-A-Doo - the list of things we can set you to work on there is large. Also, if you have any carpentry skills, we can set you up doing handyman projects for those without skills. Can you push a lawn mower? Tis the season, and if you go take a walk, you will probably find a couple of homes in your neighborhood where someone could use a hand.

If you are "living the dream" where you are able bodied and all of your earthly needs are being provided - food, shelter, etc. - then GET OFF YOUR ASS AND HELP OUT.

And the FIRST PERSON you need to help out is YOURSELF, SO PICK UP A PHONE AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT RIGHT NOW!!!

Why,we ask, she went from paid drivers to  pushing a cart about the streets.  No more dining at 5 star restaurants or dancing at big time clubs.  Every one in her family wanted her to be claimed she was dead, Few were happy she was found alive and kicking.

All family went to court to attest she was nuts to gain to control over her money.  This didn't work, the woman was a sharp as a tack and to this day I wonder what happend to her.

Must say she got one heck of an education living on the streets, she seemed to be following her Star and did well.

I know that depression can be a bitch, I had a couple of really tough years, but there comes a time when one has to put on their big boy pants and go face the world. I get so sick of these whiny ass DUmpmonkeys who can't drag themselves out of the basement any longer than it takes to score some weed. I actually have to deal with this myself. I won't elaborate because I find it embarrassing, but it gets worse with more isolation. Holing himself up in his family's home doesn't help matters any.

No sir you didn't come across that way. I do think in that regard though he is his own worse enemy. He's overweight and defines himself as pretty miserable looking and acting and that will only fuel his anxiety more since its more likely his attitude repels people and then feeds into that vicious circle. I can't help but think his 30 year old virgin status is a direct result of it and well lets face it if its that bad then he should be in some pretty serious therapy since it obviously is affecting his quality of life and coddling by the parents has only exacerbated it but at anytime he can walk right out or form a plan to get out of that hole and he chooses not to. That's on him...

jty, it sounds like he is in a negative feedback loop- anxiety leads to withdrawal and isolation, which exacerbates the anxiety, which leads to more withdrawal and isolation, ad infinitum.
