DU THREAD: Watching a 'scandal' evaporate before our very eyes (LINK)

Original Post by ProSense

The Geico DUmpPig says it all.

It's amazing how clueless and delusional people can be, even in DU. Faced with the most most blatant red-handed criminal-level partisan scandalsl in modern history, each one that makes Watergate appear to be like a high school prank, the DUmpster has taken upon itself to foster a spin as big as any quark (google that).

I've taken this event to showcase the new upgrade. Now you can click the DUmpmonkey and see his / her profile by clicking on the avatar or the user name.

UPDATE EDIT: I probably won't include the avatars and linking of usernames in the future, unless site management specifically allows for it. Bandwidth and hotlinking of images and whatnot. Oh well, it looks cool.

Take it away ProSense!

Watching a 'scandal' evaporate before our very eyes

By Steve Benen

Rachel noted on the show last night that the controversy surrounding Benghazi effectively "went away" yesterday, and given the latest information, it's hard to imagine how any serious person could disagree.

The White House yesterday afternoon released the inter-agency communications that went into crafting the "talking points" requested by Congress last September. Lawmakers already saw these materials months ago -- they found nothing controversial at the time -- but Republicans and the media decided it was time to see them again...we learned what we already knew: there was no cover-up; State and the CIA engaged in a predictable bureaucratic "tug of war"; and this:

The internal debate did not include political interference from the White House, according to the e-mails, which were provided to congressional intelligence committees several months ago.

And with that, everything Republican conspiracy theorists desperately wanted Americans to believe -- there's a scandal; there's a cover-up; there's evidence the White House manipulated and lied about a crisis for political ends -- suddenly evaporated before our very eyes...note that most sensible people realized the right's conspiracy theories were wrong, which is why the so-called "controversy" was relegated to Republican media, until last Friday's report from ABC News pushed the story into the mainstream. That ABC News report, we now know, was wrong.

There's just nothing left. Trying to characterize this as a genuine political story worthy of attention has been a misguided partisan exercise for months, but now, it's reached the point of ridiculousness. Every reporter saying the White House is engulfed in "three scandals" is misleading the public -- there was a deadly attack against a U.S. diplomatic outpost last year, which left four Americans dead. It was a tragedy; it was not a political controversy.

Put a fork in the Benghazi story; it's done.

(SOURCE LINK)

Oh, yes. Benghazi "went away" only because it was outgunned by the IRS' Spanish Inquisition given to over 500 conservative groups. It's like downplaying the crime of stealing a car when the perpetrator has also robbed a bunch of banks at gunpoint.

That said, it's the press and the administration who stonewalled the entire Benghazi incident through the election, and now claim it's "old news" and "strictly a partisan witchhunt." Wheeeeeeeee!!

all 3 now proven as dirty tricks. And the public saw through it all.Obama roped the dopes again.

a complete knockout.

And the people are the beneficiary, come 2016, Hillary will win 115 million popular votes and maybe 500 electoral votes.

Can we hope for 538-0?

YES!! Let's go for a complete shutout for Hillary in 2016! I'm sure Texas and Alabama will jump on the Hillary bandwagon too!! THAT'LL teach those rethugs for trying to punish Hillary for, well, screwing up the entire rescue operation!! Old news!!

"Every reporter saying the White House is engulfed in 'three scandals' is misleading the public"

Absolutely GD right. Despite backpedalin' & crawfishin' on the part of *some* so-called journalists & pundits, those who continue to flagellate the deceased equine are a prime example of the partisanship and hypocrisy inherent to corporate media.

"Flagellate the deceased equine"... 3 points! You get the Hurrican Katrina Vandan Hoo-ville award!

Even the ones on our side keep referring to the "Benghazi scandal," as if there were actually

something "scandalous" involved--other than the scandalous behavior of the Republicans, I mean.  That woman who was on O'Donnell's most recent show kept saying "the Benghazi scandal," even though she clearly is on our side and was criticizing the Republicans for whipping up a fake scandal!

Dems have no sense about how to use language effectively!

Let's see... blaming the attack on a youtube video with 178 hits (that was the amount I saw when I first saw the video, btw), not supporting your troops despite evidence of said support available, I can go on...but even your damned media is calling it a scandal. I AM glad that you are admitting that the press is on YOUR side.

Yeah, earlier on Brashir's program

The reporter from The Grio (SP?) finally got the Republican to say outpost that "the previous administration" brought aboard the head of the IRS. I wanted them to say "Bush Administration" so there would be no confusion that it could have been the first Obama Administration.

They forget to conveniently mention that Bush couldn't get anyone confirmed unless they were at most center-left. Even center-right nominees were not being confirmed by the 110th Congress. Besides, you conveniently forget that it's your flaming socialist, Sara Hall Ingram, who ran the [strike]Insoc[/strike] IRS division who pulled off the Spanish Inquisition on the Tea Party groups...the same woman who's now been slated to take over the Obamacare division of the IRS. You can blame Bush on that as much as I blame Lindsay Lohan on my depleted drinking supply.

They want voters to think that Big Government is bad

GOP wants you to think that Big Government is abusing powers, obtrusive and intimidating. it was far worse under the Bushes and the lawmakers for the House of Reps today are non other that the Republicans ie. the government.

Gee... I didn't know Bush was instructing the IRS to call MoveOn.org, Code Pink, Earth First, and all the other 501 Cee Three's to ask THEM for a book report on "Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals" or a copy of the Communist Manufesto, and how much money their wife's brother in law gave to the NAACP children's fund. And I missed the memo on the scandal about Dick Cheney wiretapping the press.

Down the road when another potential "scandal" is unearthed, I'm sure it will be ignored..n/t

Oh, you mean when the Democrats steal every republican vote, or work to ensure that every republican is not included on any ballot? Or when we provide proof that Jose and his family of 8  used his amnesty card to vote 16 times in Phoenix for the Lib?

It should NOT be over!

An investigation into the forged emails is definitely warranted!

Yes... find that guy who forged the emails. Most probably will be a lib anyway because the real email was more damning.

it evaporated several months ago

Hillary's testimony was the last chapter of the story.

""With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or because of guys out for a walk one night and decided to go kill some Americans? At this point what difference does it make senator?"

THERE! THERE! Proof the rethugs are POLITICIZING everthing!!

That's because it is not over till THEY say it is over;.

And sense they have the vast majority of the media on their payroll they can keep  it going as long as they like.

I think we are naive to think that just because the truth is reveled they will suddenly stop repeating the talking points...it never happened in the past and it will not happen this time ether....and  no one in the MSM will hold them accountable for it.

Look, genius, by this time next week, hell by Monday, the media will be in full shields up mode and do anything to destroy republicans and protect their criminals. Even the ones who got their phones tapped (and really, why would they be angry; they get their talking points daily anyway) will be protecting them 24/7.

I noticed that yesterday.  "This is how we're going to handle all this.  Pretend it never happened!"   Then, they start babbling at each other, the exact same thing back at each other.  Whipped into an ecstatic frenzy that it was all a bad dream, they then imagine an electoral vote of 538-0.

I'm upset that most of the "scandal" talk surrounds the talking points. The thing I'm more interested in is who gave the "Stand Down" command. Why aren't the talking heads asking that question more?

THe lame stream media make it sound so "petty". Benghazi is a LOT bigger than some changing talking points....but you wouldn't know that from the MSM.

Yes they are. In fact, if Obama had an "R" instead of a "D" for party affiliation, they would be screaming for his head on a pike instead of trying to cover for his malfeasance.

Well there I was humming  "The wheels on the bus go round and round" when all of a sudden I heard "thump, thump."

I went to GD to see if they're talking about what everybody else is talking about, namely, Sara Ingram heading up the IRScare office.  The major news outlets, thehill and politico, etc. are all covering it, and the comments are on ****ing fire.  Not a peep at the DUmp, that I could find.

I wrote my congresscritter telling him this cannot stand, and vented about some other things.
