Great pictures. It's heartwarming to see all of you together.

The only caver I know in real life is BadCat. We celebrate "brothel fest" and there are no pictures.

Many people on this board and on CU I feel like I know in real life. Heck I have not even met Evil Conservative in person and she lives close to me. I drive by her sub division all the time. I know her neighbors.

Who is the guy in the red hat with the man purse?  :fuelfire:

Was there any interesting bacon ideas? Bacon bloody marys? Chocolate covered bacon? Anything crazy and out of this world? Did you see any hippies?

Why, that would be me.    :-)

I don't normally carry a fag bag, but when in KC, go with the flow I always say.  :lmao:

(I have a video camera and a still camera, with all the requisite gear inside.)

Speaking for myself, I was pretty well stuffed from the plate full of rib ends that I'd eaten at Bryants. Definitely not very hungry, and the heat made things a little less appetizing. Nevertheless, there was one interesting thing I did try -- bacon crumbles on top of a brittle type of concoction with chocolate sauce over the top. Not bad at all!

Now that I am rehydrated, moderately well rested, and lightly caffeinated...

Riding out into the sunrise. Hanging out with Marv, Eupher, and Chris; talking about life and solving the world's problems over coffee (the best coffee in town).  Kansas City's best barbecue. Bacon. Pretty gals eating bacon in the summer sun. Seeing a couple of old acquaintances at the Festival. Live blues. Ice cream and cigar with Moose on the ride home. Riding into the setting sun. Bourbon back at the homestead.

It doesn't get much better than that.

Favorite bacon delights: I liked the bacon puff pastries, and the little crisp dessert things that Eupher talked about. Dulce de leche flavored frozen yogurt with crumbled bacon. Maple bacon cupcakes. Angels on horseback (bacon wrapped scallops)- I didn't see Devils on Horseback (shrimp)

Farmland had two tents side by side with "samples" (think "all you can eat") of their different bacons. AmeriStar Casino had a beer tent with their 5 varieties of craft brew, and a voting contest: "Best beer to have with bacon".

Did I mention "pretty gals eating bacon in the summer sun"? Ooooh, yeah.

I'll be back.

A little road side stand otuside of Atterbury, Indiana had the absolute best pulled pork I have ever had.

I think I know the place you're talking about. A little red shack, south of Franklin on the east side of the road. I had brisket.

Did you see any hippies?

Hippie chicks; hipster guys; bikers; yummy mummies; girls out on the town; college students; suburban couples; the 2nd runner up in Kansas City's "Best Beard" competition and his lovely wife (his prize was 2 tickets, which he preferred to a plaque); and us.

White, black, Indian (woo-woo, not red dot), Asian, straight, and not-so-much.  But not a burkha in the bunch, and no sign of PETA.

A couple of other items of note:

The BaconFest has a pretty steep entry ticket - $40 for general admission (with a $10 discount if you get it early) and $100 for the VIP thing.

The VIP deal gets you an air-conditioned room in which you can beat the heat; porcelain on which you can get rid of what you just ate and drank. The general admission ticket gets you no air conditioning and porta-potties.

The tradeoff is, you get all the food you can stuff down your gullet and all the beer you can in moderation drink and all the water you can hydrate yourself with when the beer has run its course. None of that crap of buying extra tickets to redeem for your bacon-wrapped delectable.

Good to see y'all had a great time...  :cheersmate:

I have to admit...it's hard for me to like anything in 100 degree heat, unless I am floating in a pool.  :(
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

We should have waited a few hours for lunch to digest.  Plodding around a crowded parking lot with a full stomach wasn't particularly enjoyable.

Imagine 2000 people crammed into a 5,000-square-foot parking lot.

Navigating was a little difficult with all the lines for the different booths.
