Not only was the FEST detachment of the State Department at Tripoli, IIRC, but there were Tier One Operators (probably Deltas) in Croatia at the time.  Probably a squadron's worth--around 40 or so.

She was responsible for helping with the cover up, but the hearings are mostly about the inaction of the boy king's regime and the death of Americans that could have been prevented with the security that was requested several times and denied. And refusing to send in trained military who were close enough to at least prevent the second attack.

Exactly, and it begs the question why Republicans wasted months arguing about whether the attackers were "terrorists" or "protesters".

Not to mention that the "staff" at the CIA Annex was in constant radio contact during the TERRORIST ATTACK and was continually calling out target coordinates and illuminating the attacking forces with a targeting laser, in hope that an air strike would be arriving.

The information I heard today was that General [Carter] Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid response unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.

General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.

  A source at the Pentagon told this writer that the tri-party consultation described by Panetta is unlikely at best and disingenuous at worst, because such decisions in the military are not taken by "consensus." This source, whose identity is being withheld, has extensive contact with the leadership arm of the reconnaissance and intelligence wing of the Pentagon and is very familiar with protocols in "hot" situations like Benghazi.

They don't even need the XVII for this.  Hell we have a whole entire MACOM for this area...it's called AFRICOM Africa Command.  They could have launched fighters rom Aviano AB right across the Med and been on target within an hour.  Those jets would have provided CAS until the Carrier Group got there.

You're right they have no excuse.  This cover up starts at the very top.  And I hope that there are people in Congress and the media who will..for once DO THEIR DAMN JOB and stay after this until it's resolved.  Benghazi SHOULD hound this administration until it's very last day.
