Ugh. We're seeing this in our schools here. How I would love to return to the days of teachers being viewed as authority figures with the power to make you cry or light up your backside when you misbehave. Nope. The liberal feel good movement is on their way to making Idiocracy a reality.
Our school has stopped using red ink to mark student work. It's deemed to "negative" and "alarming". And, everyone gets praise of some sort even when they bomb on a test. I. Am. Not. Kidding.
They are not ALLOWED to use red ink to correct papers?!?!?!?! Holy shit! That was one of the first things I did...I went and got a huge pack of red pens. Damn. (Although when I taught all boys, I used purple or pink, just to irk them.)
When I had a kid who bombed a test (if this kid was the kind that had a good sense of humor) I'd always be like...well, you spelled your name right. On the SAT that would get you 200 points!
