People fearing the government. Not a good thing.

Well, when government officeholders are wringing their hands with glee at the prospects of another crisis to take advantage of, wouldn't you?

I can deal with terrorists in my AO. It's harder to deal with a bunch of bureaucrats tying my hands behind my back and telling me how much safer I am because of it.

Perfectly understandable, IMHO.  Compare the odds of the government confiscating your home because unknown to you, someone associated with the family did something they shouldn't have, or just to give it away to a shopping center developer...or of being prosecuted over some regulatory minutiae that nobody but the regulators know about...just owning something they decided to outlaw, or being singled out for 'Investigation' because you hold opinions or belong to a group that have been targeted for suppression by the sitting Administration - vs. the chances of being killed or injured by a terrorist.  It's not hard to see which one is the bigger threat to your personal freedom.

To me, there is a difference between "trusting" and "fearing' the government.

You can trust the government.....to do everything it can to control every aspect of your life.....and then your funeral too.

This brings back to mind ... helicopters flying over Huston and Miami, without any warning, firing blank machinegun rounds.

I don't fear it as much as I loathe what has become since an illegal alien muslim community organizer took up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania avenue in 2008.

Back when I was trying to figure out how democrats were "for" the working man and all the while stealing money from the "working man's" paycheck (early twenties), someone explained to me that the zoning code was more about taking rights than protecting rights.

I think it's more about protecting and increasing local governments "property tax" base.
