I divorced myself from all DUmmies, progressives, and collectivists (but I repeat myself) in my life. I was reminded of the wisdom of that decision this morning.
So... Velvet and I went to my regular Saturday morning hangout for coffee and a cigar. Most days, the men at our gathering spot are kindred souls; strong-minded, goodhearted, conservative or libertarian, Veterans or Soldiers- men who appreciate cigars, motorcycles, and shooting irons. A wife or girlfriend will join us from time to time, but mostly it's the same 4-5 guys.
A couple of new faces sat at a table close by today. Best I could tell, they were K-State students. One was trying his best to keep a briar pipe lit.
We were talking about normal Saturday stuff- weather, women, rides, taxes, and politics. We spent some time talking about the Massachusetts police state- the consensus was that there's a good reason
jihadis don't choose Kansas. A state with John Brown, Carrie Nation, Fred Phelps, and home-cooked spicy pork rinds is not so easily terrorized by Muslims

Talking about taxes and spending, my friend Tony (black, retired First Sergeant) said "When you're up to your ass in debt, is not the time to spend more money you don't have". I replied "the Democrats do love a Keynesian", as the opener to talk about Obama's economic philosophy.
Briar Pipe took that opportunity to speak up. "My dad believes in that crap", he said. "The President is an AMERICAN. He was born in Hawaii."
It took me a moment to figure out what he was talking about.
"I said Keynesian, not Kenyan."
We all laughed... well, almost all of us did.
I don't think Briar Pipe and his friend will be back.
