<GROAN>

Got rid of lots of books today, and the recycle can is almost full. Getting ready to show this house.

Good luck.

We're not even sure of that. Our daughter wants us in or near Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Time will tell.

We need cash in hand to make an offer on anything else. We will NOT, repeat NOT, have a mortgage.

So you're not making it down to a warmer climate then . . .

Certainly agree with you on the "no mortgage" stipulation!

When I moved last year, I think I threw out as much stuff as I packed into moving boxes.

My youngest had a bowel transplant at Chicago Children's so we stayed here. All his transplant docs and GI docs are here. But enough is enough. I am sick to death of living in a liberal shithole. Not to mention the cold weather.

Not too long ago I walked by a flash mob close to the hospital and it bothers me to live in a state where I can't CC.

I have family in South Carolina so that's where I am headed. The closest transplant hospital is Duke which isn't too bad of a drive. I hope you get to move too :)

That was meant as a question. I don't live in Mass, thank the Lord Above!! I live in NH, which used to be the only red state in New England!! I am going to make damn sure it goes back in that direction.

As much as I would love to visit the south, I think I would have a problem with the humidity, living in New England for 98% of my life.. W It does get humid, for only for a weeks worth.

I hear ya. I truly believe many of us get acclimated. I was born in Phoenix and lived there about 90% of my life. I can take 118 degree heat while others duck into a movie theater to stay cool. I've been to New England before and it's gorgeous.

I grew up in the Midwest, but have lived in the South, since 1977 and I'm still NOT used to the summer humidity! I hate it, and go into hibernation from mid July through mid September!

CG.. good luck with the move. Getting rid of stuff is hard... no it's a PitA! The getting rid of isn't the worst part though, it's the going through stuff to get rid of that sucks.  :thatsright:

Fire... my son was born at Duke. It's a very good medical center. It was in the top 5 hospitals 30+ yrs ago, and I think it's still up there.

Thanks, Deb. The recycle can is already full of old magazines, books, and other junk. It must weigh over 100 pounds.

Son's coming over tonight with my new driveway/gravel drag, and he'll take a 3-ton floor jack that I have. We'll check into other things he may want, too.

Our lawyer is ready to draw up whatever we want to do.

Our next-door neighbor is checking with his folks to see if they want our place. His dad doesn't drive any more due to a small stroke, and the neighbor's son will take care of the yard and other things. I hope it works out - I'd love to sell without getting a real estate agent involved. What are their fees nowadays?

The going rate here is about 6%, but you can negotiate that.  I sold a house once as a "for sale by owner", as is".  I had a home  inspection and fixed any serious problems, like some termite damage, then secured a good escrow agent, and it came out alright.  The escrow agent is the one who did the heavy lifting with title search, drew up all the legal papers and secured the funding for both the buyer and myself.

I only had to find the buyer, which was easy.  I put a small ad in a local paper that said "For sale by Owner, As is", with the price and a phone number.  I had tons of calls and wound up selling at much higher than the asking price, because there was a bidding war.
