Shots fired at TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant
« on: April 22, 2013, 11:24:41 AM »
I got this from a Townhall column by Carol Plant Liebeau.  Strange that you don't hear about this from 'mainstream media,' isn't it?

Quote
Shots fired at TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant

Update 6:30 p.m.

A TVA spokesperson confirmed that a security officer patrolling TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant in Spring City was involved in a shootout with a suspect Sunday at about 2:00 a.m.

The security incident happened on the Tennessee River side of the plant property, more than a quarter mile from the plant's protected area, which houses its reactor and power production facilities.

TVA spokesperson Jim Hopson said the subject traveled up to the plant on a boat and walked onto the property.  When the officer questioned the suspect, the individual fired multiple shots at the officer. The officer shot back, and when he called for backup, the suspect sped away on his boat.

"We've seen instances where everyday events can be used by those who want to do harm, we all need to be on the lookout for unusual events and then respond appropriately when those things happen," said Hopson.

At least one bullet struck the patrol vehicle, but the officer was not injured in the incident.

The Townhall piece that linked to the WBIR article goes on to mention something about an al Qaeda message (or missive) about the desire to attack American nuclear power and chemical plants, a couple of years ago.  Why isn't all of this national news?

Because we must be sensitive to others. The "T" word is a slippery slope...

Because the hippies HAVE broken into nuke plants, including Oak Ridge not too long ago.

Even here, we still get a few idiot hippies who think they're going to wave magic unicorn dust and get this place shut down.

Why isn't all of this national news?
Because the democrat propaganda machine wants us to believe there is no terror anymore. Obama made friends with everyone-so everybody loves us.
and also, this propaganda theme: Nothing bad will happen on Obama's watch.

PS. Notice no description of the perp was released?

Probably testing defenses.

Must be right wing extremists who hate nuclear power plants.

Then, of course, there's this...

and obama will still get a free pass from his buddies in the media and the low information crowd.

We have what I believe is called the Clam Shell Alliance up here that is very much against our local Nuke Plant.

In the past these people have caused all kinds of problems for the plant.  This plant has been here for years, ask Sparky,  and only problem I see is not with the plant but with all the siren towers we have to warn us if a major incident happens.

These sirens are tested now and then and we are informed of the time they are are to go off, but  These blasted things are but a buzz in the air.  We can go outside 200 feet from a tower at the time of the test and only a small bit of sound is emitted. In a car, home or shopping one would not even notice the siren.    What the heck good are all these towers if they cannot blast out a sound to get attention ????

Then the Plant sends out calenders every year with instructions for evacuation routs for us.   Anyone reading this sees that it contradicts it's self, one page tells you to stay indoors, another tells you to stand on a corner and wait for a bus-------Who the heck will be driving these buses and not at home getting their own family to safety ?????

Way I see it, a big incident will leave all the kids at school, the bus drivers will not be there to pick up the kids.  Kids will be safer indoors then on the road where danger from wild eyed crazy people, this will be nothing like the orderly evacuations in the face or a hurricane,  going on the road will be carnage.

So we live with the Plant, we also live near river front LPG tanks and the huge boats that carry it up the river.   We have industry that requires huge tanks of ammonia and Pease that takes in all kinds of military and civilian aircraft.   20+ years ago one military plane took out a good part of a housing project and just missed the LPG tanks by half a mile.

We live in a dangerous world, allways have, To worry about a Nuke Plant is Nuts, I worry about human mistakes or deliberate acts in the places one would least expect.
