McDonald's to Franchisees: 'Service Is Broken'

NEWSER) – McDonald's is attributing its recent struggles to the less-than-sunny dispositions of the teenagers taking your order. "Service is broken," declared a slide in a webcast for franchise owners last month. Customer complaints have been rising, executives told the franchisees, with "rude or unprofessional employees" topping the list, the Wall Street Journal reports. About 1 in 5 complaints related to friendliness, while others were about speed of service.

Maybe take a visit to Chick-Fil-A where they're almost too nice?

McD's service time blows compared to nearly all its competition, even here in the hinterland where the staff is friendly everywhere.  It's my last resort for fast food when I'm on the road.

It's been close to 20 years since I set foot in a McDonald's .  We prefer Burger King, Arby's and Steak & Shake.  However there is one Arby's here that I won't go to again.

I went to this Arby's once and was the only customer but there were three workers behind the counter talking and I waited for five minutes before one of them asked if they could me.  I said no, turned around and walked out.

Through the years I have encountered places with poor service from employees asking one customer "what the F did he want"  Another where the counter person was flirting with a female customer and ignoring other customers.

I remember a Howard Johnson onme where I was the only customer  and the waitress still took 20 minutes to turn in the order.

McDonalds blows nuggets.  They can't turn that stuff around because of who they hire.  The people they hire don't want a job and are pissed that they have one.

Throw me some CFA anyday.  I have gone to so many CFA's and the line is out in the street. If that was McD's I would say hell no because it takes them too long for even one car in line.  CFA is the most amazing company model.  Fast, Great food, morals, and AWESOME employees.  I wish they would take over the gov't.  :-)

I made the mistake of walking into local McD's one bright and sunny because the drive-thru was about 8 deep.

Nobody in the dining area, mind you, so I got to see my breakfast being made.  And the girl sneezing the entire time she was making it.

Uh, yeah, not going back there again.

Chik-Fil-A or In-N-Out pay more and as a result have the best appearing and acting counter people in the fast food business.  .  English is always spoken both to the customers as well as to their fellow employees.  At the majority of fast food joints in So Cal, spanish is what is spoken between the employees which infuriates me to no end.

I'm not a McD fan either.  I would rather go to Carl's or Jack-in-the-box, but I rately eat at those places.  Ocasionally I'll get a craving for In-n-out Burger.

Looking at their menu recently I thought there was no reasonable way they could offer that much stuff. And if you look at it you're seeing the companies attempt to respond to a more health conscious market.

OK, fine.

But 1 of the tricks of the restaurant trade is to maximize the number of recipes with a minimalist number of ingredients. Currently, McDs does not do this. They've got salads and wraps and regular burgers and 1/4 lbs burgers and Angus burgers and swirly deserts with fruit and yogurts and ice cream and shakes and this and that.

Well, you're asking a minimum wage cook to act as if he's a sit-down restaurant cook. It's too many recipes requiring to much labor to assemble a single meal. Assuming he sticks around long enough to learn all that crap he's not going to stick around for the required ticket times for literally hundreds of people per hour.

I wouldn't.

When I managed a restaurant I had to teach cooks a 200+ item menu in less than 10 days. My trick for the burgers was:

"You know every burger gets a bun.

"They also get a PLOT.

"Pickles, Lettuce, Onion and Tomato...and it goes on the side.

"What does PLOT stand for?

"Good.

"Now the rest is printed on the ticket. So if it says 'bacon-cheddar burger' guess what goes on it?

"Good. Congratulations, you just learned to cook all 10 burger recipes."

McDs ignores this at their peril.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."
