In a particularly tragic chapter in our nation’s struggle with such violence, at least four people — including two children — were seriously injured or killed since last weekend in accidental shootings where toddlers obtained loaded weapons...

How many have died at the hands of abusive parents who were on drugs at the time?  How many died in auto accidents due to alcohol or drugs?  How many died just being kids?

Darn near had that happen to me.    Hubby came home from hunting and left side arm on living room table.   3 year old comes out and starts playing with it.   We both hit the deck even knowing that a 3 year old could not fire it, but what if ?????

From that time on all kids were taught that all weapons were loaded even when we knew they were not.  Never had any problem with the kids bringing home friends to show off Daddy's gun to friends, they were in fear of them.  No weapons were loaded but the kids didn't know it.   To the kids the weapons were taboo and not something to even think about. Just something like the stove or sink, they knew they were there but after awhile nothing to think about of talk to their friends about.
