Tree given by Barack Obama to Israeli president not dug up – yet

Tests will be carried out on the tree by the ministry of agriculture, required of all plants brought into the country, in the next two to three weeks. According to the Israeli president's office, it is possible that the tree will need to be removed for those tests to take place.
 
To comply with the Israeli ministry of agriculture rules, the roots of the magnolia tree brought by Obama's entourage on Air Force One were covered in plastic before it was planted on Wednesday.

I love faux outrages.

1.- The AG people were aware, hence roots were in plastic

2.- All countries have controls, all countries. You try to smuggle a plant into the US...go ahead.
 
3.- The faux controversy is very telling. Go after Israel for something our own AG department also does...
 
Shall we concentrate on the actual geopolitical implications ofthe trip...cough normalization of relations between Tel Aviv and Ankara for example cough, or continue with a grade one faux controversy?

They planted it with plastic around the roots.  They will have to dig it up and replant it anyway.(after it's tested)

This was just another staged Obama photo-op.
