Colorado Prison Chief Shot Dead Hours Before Governor to Sign Landmark Gun Laws

Colorado Prison Chief Shot Dead Hours Before Governor to Sign Landmark Gun Laws
Tom Clements was met by a gunman when answering the door to his home.
Steve Hsieh
March 20, 2013 |

The head of Colorado’s corrections department was shot and killed last night as he answered the door to his home, Reuters reports.

The fatal shooting of Tom Clements occurred just hours before Colorado governor John Hickenlooper was poised to sign landmark gun laws responding to a wave of mass shootings last year.

Clements, 58, was fatally shot once at his home in Monument, about 20 miles north of Colorado Springs. Authorities say they are searching for the perpetrator, but no suspect has been identified.

Colorado lawmakers drafted gun control legislation after mass shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Newtown Connecticut last year. The laws will expand background checks and limit magazine sizes. Following governor Hickenlooper’s signature, the laws are poised to go into effect July 1.

The New York Times notes that, “Some county sheriffs in the state have publicly vowed not to enforce the measures.”

So alternet -- without any basis -- is trying to associate the death of a government official with the gun control law and of course Bubblin'-Blister dutifully obeys every mere suggestion put forth by her thought controllers.

Not much traction; mostly just a sub-thread yammering over the crappy writing in the article.

In the news media, we no longer have "murder victims".

We have "victims of gun violence".

Just like we no longer have bums or winos, but instead they're "the homeless".

It's intended to remove blame from the person who's responsible for the situation, and place it on the American people at large.

Would the BB DUmmie feel better if someone where shot dead hours after the Governor signed this so-called landmark legislation?

Will BB post pearl-clutching stories when someone is shot after the law is signed?

I've heard that it might have been a Muslim assassin who killed the guy.  I guess they want a prisoner to be released to go back to Muzzieille.

If that's true, then murder is just their culture and we have to accept it.

In a body-bag, I hope.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

While Clements generally kept a low profile, his killing comes a week after he denied a request by a Saudi national to serve out the remainder of a Colorado prison sentence in Saudi Arabia.

Homaidan al-Turki, a well-known member of Denver's Muslim community, was convicted in state court in 2006 of unlawful sexual contact by use of force, theft and extortion and sentenced to 28 years to life in prison. Prosecutors said he kept a housekeeper a virtual slave for four years and sexually assaulted her. A judge reduced the sentence to eight years to life. Clements cited al-Turki's refusal to undergo sex offender treatment.

This is what I heard as well.

The BS primitive's story doesn't make sense. If someone were upset by the law, wouldn't they target a lawmaker? Why head of a prison?

Yep killed by gun violence in a residential incident.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I don't know which liberal rag this article was written in, but when you read between the lines the inference is clear what they are really trying to get across to the reader.

I bet they are trying their best to link this murder to a right wing, NRA loving, gun toting conservative.

Absolutely, especially because it's Alternet.
