Quote
Best-selling author James Herbert who wrote the horror classic The Rats, has died aged 69.

His publisher, Pan Macmillan, confirmed that he died at his home in Sussex this morning. No cause of death was given.

Jeremy Trevathan, his editor for 10 years, described him as "one of the keystone authors in a genre that had its heyday in the 1970s and 1980s".

He is survived by his wife, Eileen, whom he married in 1967, and their three daughters Kerry, Emma and Casey.

I remember reading "The Rats" as a kid, at my sister's urging.  It stuck with me.  RIP.

My first thought: "horror", eh?  Well, Dune was pretty scary in parts, but I wouldn't call it "horror".

My second thought: wait a minute, I thought he died years ago.

My third thought: Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(novel)

Umm... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Herbert

oh.

My CCW permit was issued in 1791.

I never read him but I remember my mom reading The Dark back in the day. I might have even started it but do not remember it if I did.

I only read one of his books, but it was later made into a movie, Fluke.
