What do you think?
To me, the problems of today are caused by capitalism on steroids. None of our presidents prior to Reagan would tolerate the massive off-shoring of jobs and wealth. It would have been un-American. Even the Republican Eisenhower would not allow the wealthy to skate with these generously low tax rates, or to allow social security to come under attack from the conservatives at the same time.
To my way of thinking, the fixes are elementary. When the private sector becomes so un-American as to prefer off-shoring for cheap labor and profit, then the federal government should regulate them in a way which forbids it until unemployment numbers in this country are almost 0%; That in the meantime, the federal government would create federal jobs to monopolize certain industries that have unfairly monopolized those industries themselves. For instance, I would federalize the cable industry. Make communications jobs federal jobs and tightly regulate rates that consumers can be charged. I would do the same thing with the Energy Sector. Seize federal control of all U.S. Energy sources and create millions of new federal jobs providing energy without profit.
I would raise taxes dramatically and cap CEO pay. In summation, I think the private sector is filled with vultures with no hint of humanity or natural desire to serve the good of humanity.
Privatize everything? Not hardly. I would federalize everything and declare total war on the bankers and corporate giants like the Roosevelts did. You just can't reward criminals and persecute the citizens for so long without taking drastic measures to correct the wrong.
Confirmed Socialist and proudly so.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022492934I love how the DUmmies hate corporations and CEOs for their corruption, yet they can't wait to give the government which is just as corrupt as they claim corporations are more and more power over all of our lives.
If they federalize all businesses they think that the loving caring government is going to share all the wealth with them. Instead of rich CEOs there will be rich government officials and the DUmmies will just as poor.

3. Oh,I suppose I'm one too, but then what home gardener isn't?
It just depends on how far into the individual's life you're willing to let the state go I suppose. I also am very wary of discussing things like this because its so easy to get into the trap of confusing a political system with an economic system. Everyone does it all the time, myself included. It makes anything like a coherent argument impossible; the old apples and oranges conundrum.
Socialism is a political system because under socialism the government is in total control of the economic system.

5. K&R Small 's' socialism is the natural state of humanity. n/t

It may be your natural state but there are a lot of us who freedom is our natural state.
I tell you what DUmmies, there is plenty of socialism in Europe feel free to move to France. We don't have the luxury of just finding another free society to move to when this one comes crashing down, because there isn't one. So quit ****ing up our country and go somewhere where they already have what you want.
