The Moors are a race of people that tried to conquer the world.
It all starts in a place called Sodom. There was a man named Lot and he was in this city and was a slave to sin. As Sodom was about to be destroyed an angel lead him and his family out. When they were safe from destruction he moved to the mountains with his two daughters after his wife looked back and was turned to salt. In this mountain he committed incest and ended up having two sons and one was named Moab.
Through time Moab became a people. They were enemies to the Israelites, though there were some that were good. Consider Ruth who is in the bloodline of Jesus.
Over the years the Moabites became the Moors. In the 700s the Moors were on a warpath to conquer the world and spread Islam. They went through north Africa and end up across the Strait of Gibraltar. There they started to take over the Iberian Peninsula, and while they headed north they met a formidable army led by Charles "The Hammer" Martel. A Frenchman and military genius of the day. In 732 there was a battle known as the Battle of Tours where he stopped the Moors and Islam spreading through Europe.
Then there was an expulsion of Muslims from the Iberian peninsula and those Moors and other muslims formed the Barbary Pirates. They became a nuisance in the Mediterranean. Including the line about Tripoli where the Marine hymn comes from
