Need Advice on Boats

My wife and I are looking for about a 22-24' Deck Boat. Some of the ones we've seen are:

Glasstron
Stingray
Searay
Chapparal
Bayliner
Rinker
Maxum

and others. I've heard Crazy Horse down Glasstron, and I've heard Bayliner's aren't good-quality until you get into the larger boats. We're leaning towards a Chapparal, Stingray, or Sea Ray.

Anyone have any experience with boats like these?

In the past, living very close to the Mississippi river, spent many hours in different boats...they are all pretty good boats, just find one you like and run with it.....Bayliners tend to be more mass produced I think...but they are fine, I love Rinker and Maxum...

Never said anything bad about a Glasstron. Bayliner isn't as bad as they were in the early and mid 80's. Yet reputations stick with ya even when not deserved.

Glastron and Sea Ray make some nice boats. Nitro makes a nice fish/ski combo boat also in the 288 Sport and you might want to take a look a the Baja Outlaw series as well.

My husband use to design boats for a custom boat builder (Nordic Boats in Lake Havasu) and I use to work for a boat cover manufacturer in Phoenix and a para-sail boat company in Lake Havasu.  When I worked for the boat cover manufacturer we did a ton of business with Sea Ray, they build a nice boat.  Bayliners are throw away boats, as my husband calls them.   :p

I don't own a Bayliner , but they are not throw away boats anymore. A Sea Ray is a throw away when compared to a Cruiser. The Bayliners of the mid 80's that gave em such a bad reutation were made about 4 miles from where I sit typing this. I personally would own a Bayliner these days, they however do not make the style boat I want.

Since this will be a freshwater, probably trailered boat, I would go with the cheapest one that Kev's wife likes.

That's the thing.................their reputation hasn't gotten better. Everyone still considers them a throw away boat, even though their quality is just as good as most other boats out there, yet this should remind everyone about that one "Oh Shit" erasing a 100 thata boys.

I have owned boats and I finally discovered it was easier and cheaper to rent one when I wanted it rather than own one. I have not followed the boat scene so I can't help otherwise, sorry.Good luck though.

We had a Searay when I was growing up.  That's about all I can say it.  It worked.  It floated.  We had lots of fun.

I doubt a boat would be as much fun if you were married.

Nothing like taking  a few nice looking girls out on the water....especially those that are afraid of tan lines.

Alot of great boat deals out there...takes alot of fuel.....espeically if you use it for water sports...$20 to $30 an hour for gas...or more....

I think the best time I ever had on a boat was a Baja.

We typically go out on a Yamaha Southwind or boat based on that design; a model that looks fairly similar to this.

It's a big heavy open fiberglass thing that does okay in the rough stuff and can carry suitable amounts of booze and fuel for a long trip.

It's an open boat though and isn't suitable for people that are squeamish in heavy seas or want facilities like a head and galley. Makes a great fishing platform and diving platform, which is all that I really care about.

One must remember that BOAT stands for Bring Out Another Ten grand.
