Bradley Manning pleads guilty to leaking secret government documents
Source: Los Angeles Times

FT. MEADE, Md. – Army Pfc. Bradley Edward Manning pleaded guilty Thursday to 10 charges that he illegally acquired and transferred highly classified U.S. government secrets, agreeing to serve 20 years in prison for causing a worldwide uproar when WikiLeaks published documents describing the inner workings of U.S. military and diplomatic efforts in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the globe.

The 25-year-old soldier, however, pleaded not guilty to 12 more serious charges, including espionage for aiding the enemy, meaning that his criminal case will go forward at a general court-martial in June. If convicted at trial, he risks a sentence of life in prison at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.

A small, thin soldier in Army blues and eyeglasses, Manning admitted that he leaked the video of a helicopter gun battle, State Department cables, an Army field manual and Army documents on Iraq and Afghanistan that detailed the military’s patrol reports there.

He also admitted that he leaked confidential file assessments of detainees at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and five classified records from a U.S. bombing in the Farah Province of Afghanistan, which killed up to 30 civilians.

I thought he was innocent. The DUmbasses have been telling us that for a while now.

I don't think he could be considered any more than a whistle-blower at the most.

Yeah. That's it. They broke him and he made a false confession.

How silly of me.

The plea is understandable under the circumstances, where the judge won't allow the use of whistleblower status in his defense.

didnt use the law on the books that protects whistleblowers as long as they report what they found to a member of congress and or the inspector generals office?

He wasn't blowing the Whistle on anything or anyone, he was passing classified documents. He's lucky he's not stood up against a wall.

Many who did told about the crimes, the Nuremberg Court later show the world, was indeed charget with espionage for the enemy - and excecuted, all up to the end of the war...

But in this case, I suspect 20 year, is better than excecution - at least he can survive it... Even though, I suspect he could have a hard time in prison.. The Poor man look broken and destroyed... Like he was tortured...

And they will torment him until he kills himself, and then shake their heads and claim, "What a shame",

Despite all that has been revealed about criminal activity by the US Government, the US Military, and military contractors, I have yet to see a single prosecution.

Only Manning.

That's what you get for getting all of your news from a DUmp.

I expect a raging campfire in GD, but for now, this is all there is.

If he hadn't of betrayed his country he wouldn't be in this mess.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I had a student when I was teaching crypto machine maintenance and repair at Lackland AFB in the early sixties. He had almost twenty years in, was married, and had children. He was cross training from food services, and was too smart to be cooking up SOS.

He took his class notes (they were also classified top secret) back to the barracks to study for a test, but was caught with them while entering the compound the next morning. He was a good student, and would have passed the test anyway.

He got twenty years at Leavenworth.

I'd bet that his pleading guilty really burns their collective ass up. For years they claimed that he was innocent.

Should be hung up in public so we could march past him and spit on his treasonous corpse.

Let me guess, he pled guilty to the charges that had the death penalty attached to them so that he wouldn't have to worry about that. If anyone deserves the death penalty, it's Breanna. I'd put him in front of the Fort Bragg Sniper in Order of Priority.  Sadly, it doesn't matter, he'll probably be paroled when Obumbles starts his third term.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Ummm dumbasses. Whistleblower status can't be called after the fact as protection against prosecution/there generally is a process and procedure that as a dod personnel he would have been trained on every year and you can still be prosecuted for any law you e actually broken. It obvious these idiots don't understand what that protection is for. It does not indemnify you from prosecution if you've committed a criminal act yourself. That's how I understand it anyway.

Only in DUmmie land does a member of the armed forces who commits treason by illegally hacking into and stealing top secret information...peddles it to all the major media outlets..and finally gives it to the scum that is Wikileaks...deserve some kind of protected "whistle blower" status.

Hey DUmmies he put the lives of soldiers...and people trying to do the right thing and get rid of the taliban in their coutnry in danger and some of themeven got killed because of his actions.

Ray, being shot is a 'soldier's way to go.'  Manning is a traitor.  Hanging is the preferred method for dealing with them.  (Actually, hanging, drawing, and quartering would be the really preferred way to do it, as the Olde English would do.)

Yep and therein lies that criminal act I mentioned that the status does not protect one from. They seem to think its a get out of jail free card when you've done something illegal and as you and I not know tx that's not the intention or spirit of the protection. But we all know in their world anything goes so long as their immoral goals are advanced. I really despise dummies

I agree, he doesn't deserve to die like a soldier, let him be hung. I meant simply he should be executed before William Kruetzer, also known as the 'Fort Bragg sniper'. For killing one and wounding 18 soldiers in a PT formation back in 1995. It's a moot point, as his death sentance was reduced to life imprisonment in March 2009. Thanks again DUches  :argh: :banghead:

Yeah.  They used to be quite serious about that kind of thing.

I don't think there is a fitting enough punishment but as long as he is getting at least life I can see it really getting to him in a year or two . Solitary alone for life is sometimes harder then letting them get away with the death penalty and ending it quickly for them.

That's definitely a security violation but not necessarily treason. 20 years seems awful stiff if there was no evidence of actual spillage or sale of the info. However, back then, security didn't mess around either.

Actions have consequences dummies. I do not agree with what the man did and personally think he should be executed for treason, but I'll give the man credit... at least he "spoke truth to power", put his freedom on the line, admitted to it, paid the price and now his ass will rot in prison.

I wonder what his DU name was?

As opposed to you dummies who sit in front of your PC and rant and rave about it. So dummies!!! The time is now!!! Take up arms and do your socialist revolution!!! The people will support you!!! I promise!!!! The election says so!!!!

Do it now, dummies!!!! Come on... the people of the US are waiting for you to light the match.
