Fox News Could Be Facing Extinction as 29% of Their Younger Viewers Drop Fox

By: Jason Easley
Feb. 27th, 2013

snip//

Fox News still continues to post wide overall viewership leads, but those numbers are deceiving. Senior citizens are powering Fox. The network has the oldest audience on all of television. The average age of a Fox News viewer is 66 years old and the decline in younger viewership is the biggest long term threat to the network’s survival.

Younger viewers who don’t watch Fox News are less likely to become older voters who do watch Fox News. February 2013 has been a down month across cable news compared to the same month in 2012, but MSNBC was able to keep their viewers age 25-54. The biggest age 25-54 viewership decline at MSNBC was Lawrence O’Donnell’s 12%. This is less than half of the smallest decline (O’Reilly’s 29%) on Fox.

Younger people aren’t voting Republican and they aren’t watching Fox News.

In the long term Fox execs have to figure out some way to get non-senior citizens to watch or the network’s viewership will literally die off. Fox News either has to attract younger viewers, or hope that advancements in medical science push the average life expectancy to 90.

MSNBC is already the top rated cable news network with African Americans. As the demographics of America change, MSNBC is poised to grow.

It isn’t going to happen today or tomorrow, but Fox News could be facing extinction if they don’t stop the demographic bleeding.

It's a means of catapulting the propaganda, not of making money directly.

I always think of David Brock's book Blinded by the Right. He exposes the right wing media for what they actually are.

Just saying... I'm not holding my breathe for Fox's demise. As long as the law allows 1%ers to own their own networks and say whatever they like on them with no accountability of standards for truth or integrity, we'll have something like Fox around.

If truth and integrity is ever a condition to be on the air MSNBC will be the first to go.

Of course it'll never occur to them to report actual FACTUAL news and deep six the opinions......

That is a description of MSNBC .

The DUmmies won't be happy until all conservative thought is outlawed from being broadcast. Of course the happiness will only last five minutes because they will be focused on the "right wing" network MSNBC because they heard a single view they didn't agree with.

Why are you scared of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh DUmmies?
If your ideas are so great then why worry that an opposing viewpoint might convince people otherwise?

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

February 2013 had lots of news, although as we noted yesterday, none of the cable news channels were able to grow compared to February of 2012.

The top four ad-supported cable channels in primetime in February were USA Network, History, TNT and TBS, all bolstered by new episodes of their original programs. Fox News Channel placed fifth, with ESPN, AMC, A&E, Discovery and FX rounding out the top 10.

FNC was the top cable news channel for the month, placing fifth in primetime and sixth in total day. MSNBC was 24th in primetime and 27th in total day, while CNN was 29th in both primetime and total day.
Suck it DUmmies.

The article posted in the OP links to the actual data from mediabistro.com:

Fox News improved on its January ratings across the board: in primetime, FNC is up +11% in both Total Viewers and A25-54 viewers, and in Total Day the network is up +7% and +9%, respectively.

I used to argue with liberals: "Fox is only ONE channel. Change it if you don't like it."
But then I realized that wasn't the issue. It's the mere voice of opposition they could not stand. Libs/progressives/socialists all share the same loathing for those who dare to disagree.

It was never an issue of Freedom of the Press, or Freedom of Speech. Liberals are tyrants who despise the constitution and the freedoms therein. Liberals want a dictatorship, not freedom. Even if they get what they want, they will not be happy, their hatred will only grow and a bloody purge will follow.

Bottom line: liberals are evil, They are all about tyranny and killing. Freedom is merely a tool for them.

That's kind of what I was wondering from the OP's bullshit--how the hell did they come up with an average FNC view age of 66, considering nobody gives a shit about anyone outside the 25-54 demo, and that they only check the box "over 54?"

Maybe they did this "survey" in NYC on a Tuesday afternoon.  Oh, and DUmmies, hate to say it, but Scoobie's mother (God knows why) watches CNN, and her views are a reflection of that.  The boy child's grandfather (Scoobie's father) got him a life membership in the NRA.  To say his grandmother was a bit freaked is an understatement.

And that there actually isn't an age 66 demo.  It's P2+, which is everyone, 24-54, and 35-65.

I will say this, Fox does get higher viewership in the 35-65 demo.  But they also have 2 times the viewership in any other demo.

Which got me thinking, if FOX has more viewers than all the other networks combined, then how are we losing elections.

After thinking over a cup of coffee I realized why.  I mean we all know the answer... the low information voter.  Think of how many people just vote but have no clue what so ever of what they are voting for.  It's sad actually.  I think it's even funny, the DUmmies are so proud they have the White House yet all the facts show that the only reason they have it is because of a bunch of block voters who have no clue about anything except the color of the President, Michelle's bangs, and what dress she is wearing at the Oscars.  Bravo DUmmies.

Yes, of course they had more viewers leading up to the election.  I don't think any one with a brain thought it would be maintained after the election.  They will still go on their 11 year stretch of being the most watched Cable News Network.

Even though FNC beats all the other cable news networks, their ratings are nothing compared to the LIV's that watch only the ABC/CBS/NBC and the late night comedians for their news.

They bus in the voters, get them registered, feed them pizza, and hand them a sample ballot already filled out. Free meals buy a lot of votes for the Dems...and of course we had Paul Bots and others that "stayed home" refusing to vote or voting third party, helping out Obama catch the win.
