Oh my.

The cbayer primitive, who apparently doesn't like us, although I dunno why.

Kale chips

Could have sworn I read directions for how to make these here just in the past two weeks, but I can't find them.

Anyone know how to make kale chips?

1. I do it this way:

Soak the kale in salt water. Spin dry and roast until crisp. Add more salt if desired and enjoy.

2. Do they get real crispy? Do you then eat them as snacks?

3. Yes they get crispy!

They get crispier the longer you roast them. Eat them as is or crumble them and use them as garnish--they're yummy. And you can always add herbs/spices when you roast for extra flavor!

4. i just wash, spin dry, stem and chop and throw them onto a half sheet pan in a low oven until they're all dried out.

I like them out of hand or crumbled over things. Dried kale used that way tastes almost like parsley, something else I like.

I like crunchy kale a lot better than I like soggy kale, even with lots of hot pepper and garlic.

The real question is why anyone would do that.

I'd as soon have pea chips, or brussels chips.

It doesn't sound like something my dog would eat, let alone humans.  My dog likes dried yams, carrots and apple chips.

I have a Kale plant growing in a pot in the backyard.
Dang squirrels won't even eat it.
If they ain't eatin' that stuff, I ain't either.

Sounds like way too much trouble.  Why don't the DUmmies just buy a bag of potato chips like everyone else?

True, but aren't a lot of those companies run with union labor?

Oh, the dilemma.  Oh, the drama!

My Momma used to make kale when she did pinto beans and cornbread.  It's really good stuff when made right.  As much as I enjoy cooked kale my gag reflex kicked into overdrive when I tried a kale chip once.  Seriously, they're putrid.  Why would anyone ruin perfectly delicious greens?

Same reason that a DUmmy would ruin a perfectly good country like America (given half a chance).

Kale chips keep popping up on Pinterest.  I have no idea why they are popular now. They look disgusting.

I had kale once and didn't it.

Ok, I'll take a beating for this but while the damn things are funny looking, they can be pretty tasty.  Think like a substitute for popcorn - you don't look at it, you just eat it.

The real reason people like it though?  It's a cheap, homemade version of this:

I knew a Japanese guy who bought beef jerky five pounds at a time for snack food.

He said it was the closest thing he could find here to dried squid.

I've had dried squid, and I'm sure it beats the hell out of kale chips.
