Some gunmakers say they won't sell to N.Y. police


 
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Some gun manufacturers say they will no longer sell their firearms to New York law enforcement agencies after the state passed a broad assault-weapons ban last month.

At least five companies have said they won't sell to New York police since Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the Safe Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act in January. The bill, known as the NY SAFE Act, included a ban on any semi-automatic rifles or shotguns with "military-style" features, such as a pistol grip or a folding stock.

Olympic Arms, a Washington-based company that specializes in the making of AR-15s, a semi-automatic rifle affected by the state's new gun laws, is one of those that says it won't sell to New York police.

"Olympic Arms will no longer be doing business with the State of New York or any governmental entity or employee of such governmental entity within the State of New York" until the law is repealed, the company wrote in a news release last week.

I wish they would follow through with this, though. Less profit for the merchants of death would be a good thing.

One problem with that, you are not going to eliminate their customer base. Just because a handful of loons like you want to ban them doesn't mean it is going to happen. The American people will put up with a lot of bullshit but we will not allow you idiots to disarm us ever.

A little confused about how boycotts work.

Considering there has never been a successful DU boycott you are hardly an expert on boycotts.

I hope all gun and ammunition makers do this.

If all of the arms makers stopped dealing with NYC I guess the cops there could use the spitballs that Kerry intended to arm the military with if he was elected president in 04.

They just don't get it. Once the ammo and guns start drying up in NY then what are the cops going to do? The gun makers didn't say they were going to stop selling to the civilians because of Cuomo.

who will be happy to sell guns to the NYC police. Not all manufacturers will join this boycott.
And I suspect that this action will have a negative effect on the company's sales. People don't like to see businesses bullying and threatening the government.
This move highlights the untenable situation we find ourselves in, one where corporations feel free to dictate the terms and conditions of our lives, regardless of what we want. And, oddly enough, it sheds positive light on the government, who is this rare instance seem to be on our side.

There you go, miscalculating the resolve of gun owners.

Gun owners have a long memory of any gun manufacturer who goes against their base. When S&W made an agreement with clinton and put internal locking systems on all of their guns, the backlash from gun owners almost destroyed the company. S&W, in capitulation to the gun owners, started re-manufacturing a line of guns without the ILS, calling them their classic series.

The list of manufacturers that have vowed to withhold sales to anti gun states is  growing.

Here is a partial list. More companies have joined the list, but I can't find an updated one.

Among the gun manufacturers sending that message:

    EFI, LLC – Extreme Firepower
    York Arms
    Templar Custom
    Cheaper Than Dirt

The one I want to see is Glock.  If they came out and said, "Go pound sand, Andy," I think that the Assembly would change its' tune.  Why?  Well, there's the New York State Police (with the .45 GAP in their Glocks), the NYCPD (9mm in their Glocks), for starters.  I know that the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department uses Glock 21s, for another.  (I think the NYS DEC uses Beretta 96s.)

Glock would get them to change their tune.  No sales or service of any State or local agencies' firearms in NYS.

Maybe the gunmakers don't think of it  so much as a boycott, more like taking a moral stand--a concept that is foreign to the DUmmies since they are lacking the restraints normal to civilized human beings.

Throw in Sig Arms, and you've got some SERIOUS issues in NY state.  And DUmmies, when private companies do what they're allowed to do in this country, which is PICK AND CHOOSE THEIR CUSTOMERS, guess what happens in a tyrannical government like that which exists in New York?
