Several sources, including E! Online, People.com and NY Daily News, are reporting that 37-year-old country singer Mindy McCready is dead of an apparent suicide. According to E! Online, she was found at her home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. McCready's brother confirmed the news of her death to the NY Daily News.

Stacy McCloud, a reporter for FOX 17 Nashville initially tweeted the news Sunday night.

So sad.  Her boyfriend killed himself last month too.  She leaves behind two young children.  I read that she had some addiction problems (alcohol and prescription pills).  So sad.  :(  RIP

Looks like the news was confirmed by the local sherrif.  She shot herself.

Something that is not mentioned in either of the reports in this thread is that she also suffered from profound depression.

I wasn't aware of her until today.  It must be due to mental illness.  I understand she was very successful -- like that Amy Winehouse girl.  What a shame.
