Republican lawmakers slam doctors on questions about gun ownership

Republican lawmakers are furious with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for backing questions about gun ownership during kids' check-ups.

The practice is common among doctors, who argue it is vital to ensuring children's safety at home. President Obama has vowed to protect doctors' right to ask.

.......

"It's not their business," said Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), a member of the House Judiciary Committee. "It's like asking, 'Do people pray in your home? Do they voice opinions contrary to the (Obama) administration?'"

.......

"Doctors have no business inquiring of patients whether they are choosing to exercise their constitutional rights," NRA spokeswoman Jacqueline Otto said in a statement Friday. "When a child is brought to a doctor, it is to seek their expertise in pediatrics, not firearms ownership."

Once again DUmmies, all we want is to be left the hell alone and pursue our own happiness. We don't need some doctor telling us to get rid of our guns, then reporting it to big Sis so she can send her goons over to take them someday.

1. Or does anyone in your family have cancer?

Yea doctors have no business asking about your eating habits either! Or if you have visited foreign countries or or or where it hurts!!!!!! They are so darn nosy!!! Now lets end freedom of speech of doctors, we have to end all the rights except the second amendment, that is all you need.!!!

2. But controlling a woman's body is totally cool and stuff.

I get amused when you use the argument of controlling women's bodies when the other side of your mouth says she can't have too much salt, can't have a 32 ounce big gulp, must have health insurance that meets the standards that you set, and on an on with aspects of her life you want to control. Then when she says she wants to kill an unborn baby all of a sudden she has individual rights.  :mental:

7. Asking if there is a gun in the house is equivalent to asking if people pray in the home?

Interesting peek into a mindset there.

Considering the left likes to demonize their enemies yes I have a problem when that government wants my doctor to report whether I have a gun or not.
Tell you what DUmmies what if this same government starting mandating that we ask you about any abortions you may have had?
You fools would go apeshit.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Tell ya what, docs--when the number of kids killed by accidental discharges equals or exceeds the number who die from any of a number of childhood maladies, then I'll answer your question.  Until then, none of your ****ing business.

I mean, it's not like they want to actually come to your house and interview you about assault weapons or anything, oh wait, yes they do:

Whoops, we got caught!

Of course, it was a mistake.  That they got caught.

Interesting quote from the article:

Duh. And you're part of the problem, pal.

The DUmmies would go nuts if, in an effort to ferret out pervs and pedos, the docs started asking if there was porn in the home...and the correlation is about equally remote.

Sure, anything to keep the children safe, right? So let me make a suggestion:

According to the epa over 4 million calls are made to the poison control hot line regarding children who have ingested household cleaners, chemicals, ect.
So maybe doctors had better start questioning parents about their cleaning products. While they are at it maybe they should ask about baby gates, too...I mean how many kids get hurt because they fell down the stairs where there was no baby gate? And they should ask about the trees in the yard, what if a kid climbs a tree, falls out, and gets killed?

Really, how smart do you have to be to see that this has absolutely nothing to do with keeping kids safe, but everything to do with gun control?

Any Doctor around here knows that asking those kind of questions about guns would lead to losing business real fast .

Around her it would be more of an assumption than a question.

The questions about gun ownership via the pediatricians office is more sinister than just coming for your guns. They are more interested in taking your children.

I think it should be mandatory to ask if one has engaged in gay sexual activity.

My family doctor has a gun hanging in his office above his desk. If he were to ask me if I had a gun, it would be to make sure I did have one.

How is the amount of guns I might have in my house relevant to to whatever illness I might be going to the doctor for?

I do not have any kids but my friend does. He is pro 2nd Amendment and he told his kids if anyone ever asks them if there are any guns in the home to say "no". He started doing that when each one would get to be 4 or 5. Now it is almost a reflex action if they get asked that question.

Because if you have guns, your evil.   If your evil you obviously don't raise your kids the way "they" want you to.

Which gives them their que to send Hitlery's Village after your child so that they can be taken from you and raised by state-approved abusers.

Any Doctor around here knows that asking those kind of questions about guns would lead to losing business real fast .

It's the same down here, Airwolf. It's a part of life, and people wouldn't take kindly to such questions.

My primary care doctor is a concealed carry license holder, and has seen me open carry in town. My optometrist shoots (and is an officer in the Air National Guard). One of my shooting/cigar/motorcycle/bourbon compadres is a PA (about-to-retire Major, formerly assigned to SF).

In related news, the owner of the bar where I enjoy a bourbon and cigar on Thursday afternoons recently posted a gungrabber sign. I asked him about it; he said he had a problem with less desirable people illegally carrying in the bar. I told him that the sign only restricts lawfully armed CCL holders (per KS state law). After we talked about it some more, he took down the sign. Last week I saw a new sign saying "Lawful Carry Only".

If my kids doctor had asked me anything like that, I would've gotten a new doctor.
