Anyone have advice for someone dating a conservative?


 
Any tips on how to make such a relationship work, how to avoid conflict?


And no, I don't want to hear comments like, "Break up with them."

It really won't work unless you become a conservative too. There is no way to avoid conflict unless you just keep your mouth shut. Also, I find conservatives aren't as smart as liberals. You may just find that after the attraction wears off, trying to have a conversation with someone who is dumb as a post and gets all their information from Fox News get's pretty annoying. I have dated conservatives in the past and it never ended well.

If we are so dumb then why is it we don't need the government to be our daddy?

11. Try to find areas of agreement

Consider all 'progressive/liberal' comments you do make to be like planting seeds. Don't expect or demand the other to change, but realize that you do have power to plant those ideas.

I love how they think that they can plant seeds in our tiny minds and turn us into moonbats.

Get some enjoyment out if it, heck If this is a permanent Republican and you can live with someone so opposed to your values, I hope at least you can have fun with him and find other common ground. I couldn't ever do it. Would be a major turn off. For me, it speaks to a person's character and core values. Good luck.

Btw, Ed Shulz was a Republican until his gf/wife took him with her to help at a homeless shelter and he saw that most of the men there were veterans. He changed and look at him now. It can happen.

You may not want to hear "Break up with them," but the truth of the matter is, eventually you have to talk. You can't spend all your life doing the superficial romantic things, or having sex, or going on hikes or fishing or whatever you might do for fun.

Eventually, if you want to grow old together, you have to talk.

The conservative view skews towards "**** 'em all." The liberal/progressive view leans towards compassion for all, charity when warranted, and help to get people up on their feet and self-sufficient.

If you can't get on the same page with regard to this essential world view, you won't have much to talk about--at least in a civil tone.

What a load of crap, there is nothing about liberalism that makes one self sufficient. Liberalism is all about taking from others in order to give it to those who they deem deserving. Anyone that is self sufficient is demonized and a target during tax time.

I don't know how many times a homeless/bum claims veteran status.  Almost are are fakes, and of the few who are "real" vets, most are/were shitbags and few finished even their first hitch.

Amen!! As a young conservative women I can't picture it either. I once tried to have a logical conversation with this liberal guy I liked ( yeah, yeah, I know, how in the world can you really like a liberal in the first place?) Anyway, we debated for the better part of and hour -or rather I debated and he spewed republican hatred rhetoric. Needless to say, that was the first and last time I made that mistake...only conservative guys for me now!

I only have intellectual conversations with conservatives/Republicans, male or female.  Whenever I talk to our Democrat co-worker, she is always out of the loop on everything the other three of us are talking about.  I don't think any liberal "men" work in our office.  I've never seen or spoke with one.

1. Compassion for all, except of course for the unborn, conservatives, Christians, financially successful people and anyone who disagrees with you on any issue.

You demonize private charities which tend to be much better/ more efficient at meeting people's needs (And at times, you openly steal from them, such as the "Compassionate" liberals who ran Air America conning a children's charity into giving them a huge loan which they secretly had no intention of ever paying back). btw, studies show that those evil "F**k 'em all" conservatives tend to greatly exceed liberals in generosity towards charities and other such worthwhile organizations.
