Mame vs Auntie Mame

Lucille Ball remade the movie Auntie Mame into a musical (in the 70's)  and it was called just Mame. The original Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russell was great, Lucille Ball, kind of sucked. The only part I really liked of her version was when they are down south on the Plantation and they go for a hunt (which she has never done before) and everyone starts to sing her praises, it was an entertaining musical scene.

This remake sucked the big one. Anyone have a remake that was better or worse than the original?

Some remakes are better and some are worse.  Your post got me thinking and I found a Wiki page that lists a lot of movies and their remakes.  It's kind of fun to look through.  I'll go on the record and say that I like the original Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston better than the remake with Mark Wahlberg.  And I like Cecil B. Demille's The Ten Commandments from 1956 better than his 1923 version.

I can't even think of one off hand, except "A Christmas Carol".  I liked the remake with George C. Scott, but there was also a really old black and white that I saw once that was good too.

Magnificent Seven not as good as The Seven Samurai.

Last Man Standing and Hang 'Em High as good as Yojimbo.

You've Got Mail as good as The Shop Around the Corner.

Rio Bravo as good as El Dorado....liked the supporting cast of El Dorado better.

Never Say Never Again not as good as Thunderball. Sean Connery was too old to play James Bond in NSNA.

The Karate Kid remake sucked.

If there's more I think of, I'll list them.

Cape Fear-Loved De Niro in his version better than Mitchum(?)

Godzilla remake sucked

Miracle on 34th street. Both are good.

The Preacher's Wife...no comparison to The Bishop's Wife.

Both Sabrinas were good.

The original Stepfather was better...Terry O'Quinn was creepier.

John Carpenter's The Thing infinitely better than the original.

That's all I can think of.

A Christmas carol is one of my all time favorites. The two older version on screen started Reginald owen(1938) or alistair sims(1951). The alistair sims version is usually the one the plays fairly regularly still of the two. They have it colored now but originally it was black and white. I'd bring a YouTube or two over but I'm on the mobile:) as for recent versions I love the George c Scott and Patrick Stewart versions too.

I really like the 1951 version.  The George C. Scott version was OK. I haven't seen the Patrick Sewart version. I need to check it out.

Original Red DaWn was much better than the remake.  Both were good though.

True, but I LOVE the Magnificent Seven!

Hamlet was better than the Lion King

The new Batman trilogy is better than the Keaton/Kilmer ones.

Both True Grit movies are good, but I actually prefer the newer one to the John Wayne one in this instance.
