well then she really needs to examine her conscience. She is probably what I call a "social justice" Catholic. That may be what she gets fixated on and then tends to ignore alot of the churches teaching on the life issue and more than likely gay marriage. Alot of Liberal Catholics do!

Thanks, that makes more sense than anything I ever came up with.  Sorry to thread jack, I could just never reconcile it in my brain.  How any Catholic can be anything but Conservative is beyond me.  It's like 2+2=potato.

:II:  My experience with those is that it is almost impossible to talk them out of that train of thought.  They have to be smacked with the consequences to grow up.
I struggle with the Churches teaching of social justice especially when you consider this country and how actually good the poor have it  compared to other parts of the world. But I grit my teeth and pray for them anyway!  :lmao:

Don't know, don't care, don't matter......DUmmies are still going to hell.

36. I have never met a Catholic who was not a racist and a bigot.

What Catholics are racist bigots?  The Mexican ones?  The black ones?  The Indonesian ones?  Or are they just the European ones?

It's like their brains and their fingers aren't connected... they'll say any old thing as long as it fits their agenda, true or not.

You're giving them too much credit.

Going to need to keep that DUmp thread in mind.
After the selection process is finished, and some white guy is picked instead, the screams of racism will be epic.
Doesn't really matter one bit who they pick. It's Catholic's business, not mine.

Nothing terrifies the primitives like the thought of a black conservative coming into a position of power, does it ?

Catholic Cavers:  Do you care about the hue and skintone of the Pope?

Last time I favoured a Nigerian (Francis card. Arinze), this time I would love to have a Sri Lankan (Malcolm card. Ranjith)...but if the conclave decides to elect a white man as Pope I promise not to hold the Vicar of Christ in low esteem for his light skin tones. ;)

Somehow I don't think that S. Peter had a pasty complexion.

If Card. Turkson were to be elected, they would be utterly lost in how to react...though I'm sure they would rapidly descend into pure hatred and bile, with not a few racist overtones.

At first, they will point and laugh, thinking Conservative people worry about the guys skin color.
I give it a month before they start bad-mouthing him.
If it's some white guy, they'll start right off.

Like the avatar, btw.

I don't have any favorites myself.

I'm thinking insight from God will guide the electors.

Whoever they pick as Pope...just not that African Peter guy
I'm not Catholic (raised one, but haven't been to church in a decade, don't identify as it at all, I actually do go to a church now but a non-denominational evangelical one, very different from Catholic), so normally I'd put no bearing or importance on who the Pope is, but picking someone named "Peter" with that prophecy around is just too creepy. And think of how people would react and the possible panics. I put no faith in the Catholic Church to do what's right since their track record is so weak, but I am hoping the cardinals do the responsible thing in not selecting that guy.

They're really worried a black man might become Pope. From another thread:

I have no idea what's she jabbering about. But when you go out of your way to disavow your Catholicness, then quit worrying about what Catholics are doing. It's not your concern anymore.

Will the next pope be the last?

http://www.wnd.com/2012/04/will-the-next-pope-be-the-last/

Quote
It makes the case that the successor to Pope Benedict XVI will be the last Roman Catholic pontiff – leading to what has been prophesied as the “great apostasy” and even the destruction of Rome.

For more than 800 years, scholars have pointed to the dark augury regarding “the last pope.” The prophecy, taken from St. Malachy’s “Prophecy of the Popes,” is among a list of verses predicting each of the Roman Catholic popes from Pope Celestine II to the final pope, “Peter the Roman,” whose reign would end in the destruction of Rome.

First published in 1595, the prophecies were attributed to St. Malachy by a Benedictine historian named Arnold de Wyon, who recorded them in his book “Lignum Vitæ.” Tradition holds that Malachy had been called to Rome by Pope Innocent II. While there, he experienced the vision of the future popes, including the last one, which he wrote down in a series of cryptic phrases.

According to the prophecy, the next pope is to be the final pontiff, Petrus Romanus or Peter the Roman. Some Catholics believe that the next pope on St. Malachy’s list heralds the beginning of “great apostasy” followed by “great tribulation,” setting the stage for the imminent unfolding of apocalyptic events, something many non-Catholics would agree with.

This would give rise to a false prophet, who according to the book of Revelation leads the world’s religious communities into embracing a political leader known as Antichrist. In recent history, several Catholic priests – some deceased now – have been surprisingly outspoken about what they have seen as this inevitable danger rising from within the ranks of Catholicism as a result of secret satanic “Illuminati-Masonic” influences.

I want Cardinal Dolan, he has an awesome personality amongst other things.

The latest line from an Internet gambling site that I mentioned previously has Cardinal Marc Ouellet as the 7:2 favorite now.  Cardinal Turkson is up to 4:1, and Cardinal Arinze is 6:1.  Cardinal Dolan is 40:1.  Maybe I can convince my wife to put her money where her mouth is . . . literally!

Just some background--the last time I tried this was 10 years ago, when I ran my lab's NCAA Men's Basketball pool.  She handed me her sheet, and I looked at her national champion, and shouted out, "Syracuse?  What the **** did you pick Syracuse for????"  And I had a good laugh.

Fast forward almost three weeks, as the Syracuse Orangemen were beating the Kansas Jayhawks in the title game . . . at the end of that game, I said, "It's a sign of the End Of The World!"  My wife let me know that she had picked Syracuse . . . an average of every hour for the next three weeks.  Remember, there's 24 of those hour thingys in a day.  An average of once an hour for 24 times 21 total times.  She'd wake me up at night to tell me, "I picked Syracuse!"  She'd call me at work--repeatedly throughout the day--and say, "I picked Syracuse!"

I don't think that I'd laugh at her pick now.  It's highly unlikely that Cardinal Dolan would ever be elected.
