Excellent find.

And YES...  Kids today are lazy.

Most of em appear to be lazy , undisciplined and soft with a strong sense of entitlement and a vastly over-inflated sense of self worth.

Yes.

My wife, our families, and I are trying hard to give our kids the tools they will need to succeed.

My kids got "participation trophies" in soccer and basketball and questioned why they got trophies when they didn't get first place. I told them straight out that some people believe that everyone is so special it doesn't matter if they win or lose. At 9, they thought that was crazy.

They have responsibilites here and at my in-laws. If more parents actually parented and realized that learning from loses is sometimes more important than learning from winning, and didn't give their kids everything, it would be a better place.

I'm not lazy! I just stretch out really far and try to reach for the remote instead of getting up.

No but seriously they are. I'm kinda ashamed at my generation.

I do know some real good, hard working, responsible late teens and 20 somethings, but they do seem more rare than they used to be.

I'll put it a little more succinctly--go to any suburban area.  Look at who mows the lawns.

Look at who was doing it 30-40 years ago.  Tell you anything?

Yes and I blame this on video games! They just don't go outside and do things like we did. As far a physical labor is concerned I'm pushing 60 and I can still outwork most 20 year olds!  Its like torture to them?  When I am splitting and stacking wood in the spring once and a while my boys who are 27 and 28 stop by and "help" They touch about 10 pieces of wood and call it quits! Then they go on facebook and tell the world that they split wood all day and got me ready for winter! If I had it to do all over I would not get my children and video games. But would that help since the whole world is full of them? Pussifacation of America! I hate it!

"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

I guess I am lucky. My boys would rather be outside shooting baskets, tossing the football around (and tackling each other), riding their bikes or stalking small game and birds with their pellet guns than play the Wii.

They're good helpers as far as yard work goes, too.

I would say the vast majority of kids are not lazy; the parents are. I have instilled in my children a work ethic and belief that hard work pays off in large ways.

For Instance my boys were wrestlers all the way to College and worked hard at training and weight control. It paid off huge for both of them

I have given my girlfriends daughter the same work ethic. She wanted to be a Competitive cheerleader so she put in the effort and had the discipline to push herself. Sunday her cheer team won the WOW Factor Nationals.

Concur.

Parenting is hard work. It's not easy being consistent and it is definitely difficult in being involved in your kids' lives.

This is the failure. Parents dial out, throw toys and games at the kids out of guilt (because they're not there) and wonder why the kids turn out to be gang members, dope dealers, or pregnant at the age of 12.

Older folks have been saying that about younger folks for centuries.

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

-- attributed to Socrates by some guy named Plato.

ETA, I found more:

I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless
beyond words. When I was a boy, we were taught to be discrete and
respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and
impatient of restraint.
--- Hesiod, Eighth Century B.C.

"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of
today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for
parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as
if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is
foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest
and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."
--Peter the Hermit, 1274

I teach boys ages 15-17. Sure, lots are lazy, but look at the people of our generations. Lots of US are lazy, too.

Dennis, the Beav, Eddie, Wally, and the rest of the little bastards don't call me Mr. Wilson for nothin'....

Gladys Kravitz and I had a thing going, until she adopted a 10-year-old. That was it - I ended it.

She was a little nosy anyway.

I hate when I tell people I live next door to the Kravitz's, and they ask me who that is.

When I get old I'll be saying things like "When I was your age we looked at cats on the internet for 15 hours! And you liked it!" "Cell phones were only 4g when I was your age!" "Billy you have the Ipod 18s. When I was your age we had just gotten the Ipod 5 only 6 months after the 4s." "I remember mp3s... Its amazing to see those new fangled mp20s."
