Bolivia Passes Law Declaring Mother Earth has Equal Status

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/apr/10/bolivia-enshrines-natural-worlds-rights

** I'm looking forward to the day that our government treats Latin American left leaning governments with respect, this is certainly a superior culture to one where "corporations are people, my friend".

Law of Mother Earth expected to prompt radical new conservation and social measures in South American nation

Bolivia is set to pass the world's first laws granting all nature equal rights to humans. The Law of Mother Earth, now agreed by politicians and grassroots social groups, redefines the country's rich mineral deposits as "blessings" and is expected to lead to radical new conservation and social measures to reduce pollution and control industry.

The country, which has been pilloried by the US and Britain in the UN climate talks for demanding steep carbon emission cuts, will establish 11 new rights for nature. They include: the right to life and to exist; the right to continue vital cycles and processes free from human alteration; the right to pure water and clean air; the right to balance; the right not to be polluted; and the right to not have cellular structure modified or genetically altered.

Controversially, it will also enshrine the right of nature "to not be affected by mega-infrastructure and development projects that affect the balance of ecosystems and the local inhabitant communities".

"It makes world history. Earth is the mother of all", said Vice-President Alvaro García Linera. "It establishes a new relationship between man and nature, the harmony of which must be preserved as a guarantee of its regeneration."

Of course the moonbats love this and are hoping like hell that the US does this.

What bugs me about this is, they are more than willing to give the earth person status and making it so that we can't use any natural resources in order to make better lives for us all. Yet they, the left in America, can't give a baby in the womb, who is a human, person status.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Quote from:
Abortion in Bolivia is currently illegal unless it must be done to prevent harm to the woman's health or in cases of rape. This policy has been in place since 1973.

The punishment is 1 to 3 years in prison for the pregnant woman who consents to the operation, and 1 to 6 years for the person who does the procedure. If a woman performs the procedure on herself, she will only be charged with consenting to an abortion.

Nonetheless, it is a challenge for pregnant women to actually secure a legal, safe abortion; even if they have been raped.

There you go. Now the primtives have another reason to complain, as if they needed a reason to complain all the time like they do.

Because third world peasant labor is a good thing.

My comments were directed to the lefties here who love this idea of making mother earf a person.

I didn't know what Boliva's abortion policy was, but now that we know I wonder what the DUmmies would think about that.  :-)

Congratulation to Bolivia for permanently consigning itself to third world shithole status.

There was never any risk of that changing.

I suppose your right...I just found it interesting (I guess that's the word) that they felt the need to enshrine it into law.

There was a time when they killed Marxist thugs. They have devolved greatly since then.

You know, to me this is just another liberal paradise DUmmies should be emigrating to. Like Cuba and North Korea.  Instead of ruining a good country.

Piss on it.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

DUmmies may as well pass a law declaring their wee-wee's have equal status.
They don't use those for any useful purpose either.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

OK, so which of their politicians are going to profit from this?
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948
