Tax Return (Not for the economics forum .. is it?)
« on: January 29, 2013, 11:03:02 PM »
In about ten minutes .. those filing the 1040 EZ form can do so on line.
Just be sure to go over your return before filing as I'm sure the IRS will deny it .. if yours looks similar to this ...

So true.
Sneaking into a country doesn't make you an immigrant any
more than breaking into someone's house makes you part of the family.

I've always done my own taxes. In over 50 years, I have been audited only once, in 1965 when I couldn't prove a $50 property loss because I lost the bill.

This year, I can't be audited because for the first time I WILL NOT FILE!

Anybody care to join me in a tax revolt?

Yeah, Marv, don't be silly. I know it is frustrating, but it is a dirty job!

I'm annoyed about filing taxes this year.  I spent the year living off savings and school loans, and all my income for last year came to less than $2000, so I'm not going to owe anything, and I'm not going to get anything back.  I'm just filing to keep it from coming back to bite me if the IRS noticed that I didn't file.

As far as I can see, Marv, the short term satisfaction wouldn't make up for the long term headaches when the IRS decided to follow up with you.

I so feel your pain, marv, as it echoes all of ours, but do file.  As one of the commercials on Rush's show proclaims:  The IRS is the most brutal collection agency on the planet.
While I don't subscribe to that sentiment, there's no doubt with all the new agents being hired to ferret out anyone not paying for health insurance plus all the regular tax bs that anyone's chances of getting caught are gonna go up.

Do you have to file if you're retired and not getting an income other than SS?

Legally?  I don't know, but my dad never did and he never had any problems.

I assume since you have to pay income taxes on SS, you would have to file (thanks, Clinton).

Some people have to pay federal income taxes on their Social Security benefits.  This usually happens only if you have other substantial income (such as wages, self-employment, interest, dividends and other taxable income that must be reported on your tax return) in addition to your benefits.
