Congress's plan to open the border to illegals
« on: January 29, 2013, 09:49:57 AM »
Powered by the results of the November elections, a bipartisan group of top senators on Monday floated the latest proposal to overhaul the nation’s shattered immigration system — but acknowledged they are at the earliest stages of what is a fragile balancing act.
Led by Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, and Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, the eight lawmakers said they want to give all illegal immigrants instant legal status, to expand pathways for legal immigration and to enact more border security.
The framework is close to the 2007 bill that collapsed after voters shut down the chamber’s switchboard with angry phone calls and 53 senators, including 15 Democrats and one independent, joined a filibuster.
For now, though, this year’s plan is just a five-page framework — and the eight senators who wrote it acknowledge the difficulties ahead in turning their outline into a bill that would run hundreds of pages and settle dozens of thorny issues, then pushing that bill through the Democrat-led Senate and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and onto President Obama’s desk.

This is something tried before by the likes of McCain. Obama wants to put his plan forward which probably fast tracks granting amnesty right away.  If Obama can not accomplish this look for another executive order.

I think they got that bipartisan thingy wrong.  I don't see any of that above.   :thatsright:

They are doing this to get the Hispanic vote. Good job, you may have gotten 100 illegals to vote for you, but you lost my vote.

Juan McLame isn't due for another senatorial goatrope until 2016, so he's not fishing for votes already.

The Dems are pulling the wool over their eyes with promises of securing the boarder just like they did with Reagan.

Democrats lie, they always lie.

Why bother?

Please correct the part where you said "all illegal immigrants". The plan is to give legal status to the ones who pass a background check, learn english and pay a fine. We don't know if all illegal immigrants will meet those 3 conditions.

This is a direct quote out of the article, John. It wouldn't be correct to change the article, just because you don't like what it says:

Oh, and John:

Do you honestly think that those magical three conditions you're talking about would actually be used in the way you're talking?

Just heard Marco Rubio on Rush discussing this. What he had to say (unscripted) was nothing like what's here. Granted, nothing may happen. He certainly understands how hard it will be to get the border controls our country needs while working with the left but he is willing to put himself out there. This is the one place where he will have more "street cred" than 0bama or any of the other Demo "we need another slave class" crats because it's his story.

In addition to Mr. McCain and Mr. Schumer, the other senators who wrote Monday’s framework are Democratic Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, and Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Jeff Flake of Arizona and Marco Rubio of Florida.

How about we secure the borders first. We don't don't need a new law for that we have Border Patrol for that. Allow them to do what they need to do to do job.

If I recall even with the 1986 Amnesty, less Hispanics voted for George H. W. Bush in 1988 after Ronald Reagan served his term. Hispanic population did rise.

The Illegal Immigration Loop
« Reply #16 on: January 29, 2013, 05:44:49 PM »
Too many interests are quite happy with the status quo: why would Dems really want to reform immigration policy? They benefit from the votes of illegal immigrants. Why would certain business interests want to change it, when they benefit from the labor of illegal immigrants? They of course support Dems who are in no hurry to change things, and if they do change things, it will be to open the floodgates, as we have seen in their proposals.

And so the loop is fairly well closed.

For ****'s sake, the Obama administration is suing my state of Arizona just for passing laws to ENFORCE existing federal law re illegal aliens.  No one in their right mind believes the federal government of Barack Obama gives a flying **** about illegal pond scum passing any requirements except the part where they say SI to the Democratic party ticket.
