Short skirts = rape?
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:59:14 PM »
Quote
A Tory MP has come under fire  for saying that women are putting themselves at risk of rape by wearing short skirts and high heels.

Richard Graham’s comments sparked outrage among women’s groups, who insist that if a woman becomes a victim of rape it is not because of her dress style.

So we can have an honest discussion here.  Do you think a woman is putting herself out there if she dresses with short skirts and heels?

That depends on the area she's in, the people she's around, etc. But I don't think it's necessarily so.

I would think that any attractive woman out and about would be a target for the sick bastards that rape women.

I do think that if a woman is dressed sexy she will get noticed more easily by those with bad intentions though.

I saw the quote above through the POV of a Brit.  They have a lot of lawless muslims roaming around the joint, and in the wrong neighborhood, things could go terribly bad for a girl in a short skirt.  This is just real life.

In a civilized country, it shouldn't even be an issue.  The current fashion, here anyways, is leggings, a real short skirt, and boots.  In the office.  Worn by HR manager.

It really doesn't matter what the women or non-rapist men think "Ought to be" the way people think, what matters is whether men who might rape them think.  By that yardstick, going around where any such men might be found dressed in a sexy manner is probably a horrible idea, no matter what anyone thinks the thoughts of people 'Ought to be.'

The same can be said about any large liberal stronghold if you go in the wrong areas.

Here's how I see it:  If I go walking in a crime-ridden part of town at night alone with $100 bills hanging out of my pockets, would anybody really be surprised if I got mugged and robbed?  No.  Does that make what happened to me OK?  No.  But I sure didn't put myself in a situation that was in my own best interest if I didn't want to be mugged and robbed.

IMHO, some women who dress like that want attention. Not all, though. They don't think about what could go wrong.

Not that I'm complaining about attractive women dressing like that. :whistling:

Rape is not a crime of sex; it is a crime of aggression, violence and control that happens to have a sexual component. I deal with rape victims quite often. A rapist is a violent criminal that will target the week unless he is looking for a specific victim type (Serial Rapist).

What a women wears has nothing to do with rape at all. I have known women that were not dressed "sexual" get raped just as often as a woman in a micomini with high heals, fishnets and a bikini top. A rapist will look for opportunity and weakness.

I suggest every woman takes a self defense class at least once every couple of years.

You're all making good "common sense" comments.  If this Tory is talking about a recent "problem", (with the muzzies) then for sure it needs to be discussed.

I recently watched a video of Muslim men in Britain chasing and harrassing modestly dressed women because they didn't have their hair covered.

It is my understanding (CL would know better) that in some sects of Islam if a woman is raped it was her fault for enticing a man.

^^^This.

Crime perpetrated on a woman because she's drunk and dressed provocatively is still a crime. But the fact remains, the victim has a responsibility TO HERSELF to maintain situational awareness and to keep herself out of potentially dangerous encounters.

She can't do that if she's puking on her stilettos and doesn't know what day it is.

I have seen reports of them stoned/executed for being raped.

I have read that Muslims, less than 5% of the population in Sweden, commit 85% of the rapes in Sweden.

No. I think she looks good . Some might be doing it for their own reasons but It's no excuse to attack a woman because some guy gets a woody thinking she dresses cheap so she must want it bad. Some women have gone to far and I'm sure their workplace has said something about it if it s at work but those that are not working usually don't get more then the attraction  they don't want.

My wife is a former citizen of Iran. In iran, if a woman or young girl is raped, the law consideres it her fault for enticing the rapist. Keep in mind that in that society, the women are required to be covered with only their face and hands exposed. Rapes occur all of the time so, being scntily dressed is not the issue. If the woman or girl is out in public without their fathers, brothers, or ina group of women, they are a target. The better outcome would be for them to be arrested by the morality police for being out alone. But then, the police can rape her and get away with it too.
