A Secret Service dog tragically fell to its death Saturday night in New Orleans while doing a security sweep of six-story building next a hotel where Vice President Joe Biden was hosting an event.

The Belgian Malinois fell from the roof of a parking garage deck adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton where Biden was speaking at a fundraiser for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu.

The dog was working in the Premier Parking garage on Iberville Street near the French Quarter hotel blocks away from rowdy Bourbon Street when it fell off the roof around 6 pm Saturday night, according to New Orleans Police.

Why was the Dog off lead, darn I would like to hear the reason from his handeler.  Did the handeler leave the dog on the roof to go down stairs, get a drink and talk to the Ho's on the street ?????
