Illinois’ credit rating downgraded; state drops to worst in the nation

Source: WGN News

Illinois’ credit rating has taken another hit. Standard & Poor’s Ratings Service downgraded the state from an “A” rating to “A-minus”, making it the worst in the country.

The New York ratings firm’s ranking means taxpayers may have to pay tens of millions of dollars more in interest when the state borrows money for roads and other projects.

The downgrade is the latest fallout over the $96.8 billion debt to five state pension systems. The downgrade now ties Illinois with California, but California has a positive outlook. Illinois’ fragile overall financial status netted it a negative outlook, putting it behind California overall.

The ratings came out now because Illinois plans to issue $500 million in bonds within days.

There are only five replies--none of which make any sense.

But how could one comment intelligently on the story?  The democrat party has been running the state for years.  Any criticism of who got the state into this financial condition would surely constitute a dreaded TOS violation.

This Dummy isn't dumb enough to get suckered into the trap and lays the blame on:

How can you argue with someone so simpleminded.  How could robber barons stashing money in Switzerland in the 1920s cause Ill. to be in the toilet now.  Everybody knows their current troubles started when Ozunga left for the white house.  If he had stayed in Chicago the state would have a AAA rating.

The public unions deserve no blame whatsoever for trying to feather their nests at the expense of working taxpayers.

The excuse for the 48 other States with a Superior credit Rating is ......

You are correct

If YOU had paid attention
It is said that branches draw their life from the vine. Each is separate yet all are one as they share one life giving stem . The Bible tells us we are called to a similar union in life, our lives with the life of God. We are incorporated into him; made sharers in his life. Apart from this union we can do nothing.

The downgrade now ties Illinois with California, but California has a positive outlook.

Difficult to see why CA does, really, unless you want to willingly suspend disbelief and buy Moonbeam's cooked numbers.

The New York ratings firm’s ranking means taxpayers may have to pay tens of millions of dollars more in interest when the state borrows money for union wages, retiring at 55 with COLAs, and Cadillac Healthcare.

Edited for reality and truth.

I thought the huge income tax hike the all democrat party controlled state was supposed to fix this.

Red states are suspending income taxes and blue states are getting credit downgrades. Those that refuse to see reality are doomed to vote democrat party.

When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

:-)  I expect he'll be cooking leftovers for the next few years as reality hits, as usual, and the expected revenue drys up again never materializes, as usual.

Maybe you should have been able to pass a drug test and make your employer money. You do that, the employer tends not to fire you. I've even seen some employers that would turn a blind eye to some recreational drug use in the off time if the employee makes them money.

Me? When the boss walks down the hall with something he needs done he gives it to me cause he knows I will get it done, on time and it will be right, and I never complain.

I don't have to worry about my job. Never have. If the boss ever really pisses me off, I'll go elsewhere and he and I both know it. Times get tough, he looks to get rid of the marginal employees like yourself.

Sucks to be you dummie. Sucks to be you. I have no sympathy. To me getting ahead is really easy. Just take on any and all work no matter how shitty it is and don't complain. After 5 or 10 years, you will have your hands in everything that is going on, institutional knowledge, and the boss can't afford to get rid of you. It works dummie. Try it.   :loser: :loser:

Living in Illinois myself I hear about the state's woes and how they do not have  the money to pay their bills.  Meanwhile the legislature is getting raises and the governor wants all new revenue to help programs for illegals and to build high speed rail and the third airport the airlines do not want.

Meanwhile the state is looking to increase taxes again.

The sad truth for Illinoise is that the ghost of Al Capone lives on. Chicago was always about corruption, and Chicago always ran the state.

Rain McCloud, how can you possibly think that "Teatardos" caused this mess?  Everyone knows about Chicago politics.  The corruption, the back-scratching, all that.  It's been going on forever.  Do you really believe the rest of the country is looking at the shortfall, and saying "Damn Teatardos!  Damn that Reagan!"

Your name is stupid, BTW.

Not this California boy.  :bs:
