Three Tennessee homecoming king nominees made a unanimous and touching decision that no matter who won, they would give the crown to a beloved student with a genetic condition.

Students Jesse Cooper, Drew Gibbs and Zeke Grissom were all nominated for homecoming king at Community High School's basketball homecoming ceremony.

The teens got together and decided that the winner would turn over the honor to junior Scotty Maloney, who has Williams Syndrome, a neurological disorder that inhibits learning and speech.

How I agree, people should be rewarded fo their performace, talent and smarts.

There can be sub catagories for those that work their ass of but for Any reason fall short, be it medical problems or health conditions.

We have our Speciel  Oympics  each year, some of these kids have trained for a couple years they want to be the best.

What a let down for the kid that did their best to find that others that never bothered to train got the same medal as them. Why bother to strive and work out to become the best when they know all that work gets them the same reconition as everyone else in the game.?????

The handicaped who go into these games with a mind set of winning, forget it, this is a horrid fraud brought unto the kids that are handicapped and work to over come their problems.

It's a Homecoming King, that is a popularity contest. I think they did a nice thing.

Homecoming Kings have nothing to do with athletic ability and everything to do with popularity. I can see what they did as a noble thing. If it was a VIP award, I like most would look at it differently as the youth in question did not earn it. I really don't think homecoming king is something you earn, however It's been awhile since I was in high school (other than as a coach) so I may be wrong.

That depends on how you look at it. what is the motive for giving up something that ultimately doesn't matter? Do you remember who your homecoming king was ? I don't have a clue who mine was nor do I care.

If you stand holding an open door an extra 20 seconds for someone that is handicapped and slow; is that done out of pity?

Giving up your seat to the elderly? Is that pity?

People do all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons, was it pity, was it to make themselves feel better? Does it matter? I don't think the boy that benefited cares that it was handed to him, if you ask him I bet he would say that for 1 day he was a king. 1 day 3 jocks decided to think about someone other than themselves. I think that is a good thing.

You're right.  Sort of.  In the bigger scheme of life winning Homecoming King means very little, but to that kid it means one hell of a lot.   After reading the article, the guys didn't do this for malice or as a joke, the kid is genuinely well liked by his classmates and they knew how much it would mean to him.  They didn't need another reason to do it.

Well lets see where nice has got us:
1)  Minorities do not fail, they get a pass not matter their grade, you can fail a whitey but that is where it stops, its called Affirmative Action right now the only folks it does apply to are Whitey and PedOfiles, however NAMBLA and several other orgs are now working on that since the latest studies say its an illness and we should not hold it against them.
