After seeing Eupher's thread on his fine Australian, and she is a lovely little lady, I couldn't stand it so decided I would show off Rocket Shooter.
A little background. Our last pup was a Golden Retriever named Dixie Belle that was our darling for about 12 years. Before her we had an Irish Setter that was my creek and boat dog. My son and his girlfriend had found her running the back roads around Beaumont and he brought her home, thin, bedraggled, and skittish as hell. We had her until she was about 14 1/2. After Dixie, and the anguish of having to put her to sleep in December of '06, we were without.
Then along came Rocket. My daughter and her family that live the other side of Houston had his parents, and he was out of the first litter that Annie had. He was the last one left after selling the others, and, as I had always wanted one like Jake, the dad, we took him. The wars started. He was more like his Momma, kinda nuts, and scatter brained. Fortunately he is very loving and mostly a big wuss.
Can't speak to most Labs, but as a Chocolate, the Rocket is half nuts and the other half is crazy. He weighs about 140 pounds, is a big boy, and sleeps with us. Luckily we have a king size bed, or I would have to sleep on the floor. During Rita, we had evacuated to Houston ( our daughter's ) with our Golden in a '94 Chrysler Concorde. If we had gone North with everyone else, we would have been in traffic about 20 hours or more with all our stuff and Dixie. While in Houston, we traded for my wife's Lexus. Great car, but small and another evacuation with Bear would have been a disaster, so I bought a 2010 used Ford F150, sight unseen, picked it up at my daughter's house in Houston, and Rocket loves his BBT. ( big blue truck ) We can't say it as he picks up on the words and wants to go riding.
Rocket at about 2 years;

He is about 3 years older ( turned five this past 5th of the month ) and is considerably bigger and heavier.
For you pup lovers, cats as well, we buy some treats from Cookies for Kaiser, a local business designed to provide a home for strays, cast offs, and some foster pups. That is a story in itself. ( I am not affiliated in any way, except to have made a donation to my Vet for Kaisers original treatment and my wife buys the home made all natural treats for Rocket )
As old folks, we have no business with a big old mutt that thinks he owns us. But we do, and we thank The Lord for it.
