How Do You Deal With Republicans Who Think You're Secular Because You Are A Democrat?

I received a Facebook message recently from one of my relatives. She is a devout Catholic, and is also a big Republican. In the message, she simply wrote "I am disappointed because I thought you stood for what our Faith teaches?". Quite honestly, I was a little bit insulted at the characterization that, because I am a Democrat, I am somehow "less of a Catholic" than she is. I attend church every week and pray every day.

How do you deal with such characterizations?

I know that is so strange, just because you go against what the church teaches against things like abortion someone would say that aren't following the faith.

4. tell them Barack Obama and Jesus both were community activists

Only Jesus didn't go around shaking people for money. You will not find one single quote from Jesus where he talked about taking from the rich and handing it to the poor.

14. I know...

It's the whole, if you are a Democrat and ''pro-choice'', then that automatically means you are ''pro-abortion''.

Despite the fact that President Obama attends mass at St. Johns Episcopal Church regularly while President Reagan rarely attended church regularly.

If you are pro choice then that means you support the "right" of women to kill the unborn. I can't figure out how anyone could make the assumption that you are pro abortion just because you support it.

13. As opposed to those who feel I'm a commie and a moocher?

Ignore them.

You post at DU so you are both those.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I don't see how true Christians can vote Democrat. True Christians would never support a homosexual and pro-murder platform...

Jesus was apolitical. Quit trying to make Him a liberal.

Going to church doesn't make one a Christian, numbnuts. I know plenty of folks in town who attend church just for show.

I'm not pro-gun.  I'm just pro-choice on the issue.  See how that works, DUmbasses?

Going to church makes one just as Christian as going to the hospital makes you a doctor.
