poll: is the primitives' moleophobia justified?
« on: January 20, 2013, 03:34:56 PM »
Is the primitives’ fear of moles on Skins’s island justified?

Of course there’s moles among the primitives, just as there’s moles probably everywhere else in the world, in probably all human interaction, surreptitiously burrowing into things.

Before I go any further, I have to explain something; there’s a difference between a “troll” and a “mole.”

Nobody on any side of the aisle cares for trolls, who exist merely to disrupt, to cause trouble.

Moles however are a different sort of thing; they merely wish to blend in, causing no disturbance at all, and gain whatever they can from what they see while looking around.

I dunno how many presences franksolich has had on Skins’s island, since circa mid-2002 (my presence before then was as a troll, never a mole, but as a troll I proved abysmal, and so gave it up); surely more than a dozen and a half over the years, many of whom did not last long.

Somewhere along the way, I finally got the idea; franksolich’s talents lay in being a mole, not a troll.

My longest-surviving mole is from the time poor stupid Beth ran her really stupid scam, and a bona fide long-time member of Skins’s island, disgusted with the whole bit, the way Beth was making Skins’s island the laughingstock of the internet, handed over its high post-count persona to me, and I assume (without knowing for sure), going on to create a new presence for itself.

There’s a couple, three, four, other moles facading franksolich, but they’re much newer and far less active; in fact, at the risk of giving too much information, none of them has been around Skins’s island since last summer.

Moling is high-stress, causing much convulsion and gastric discombobulation, and I’ve always been nervous, on edge, when doing it.  When one’s on hostile terrain, one becomes very conservative, very cautious, being careful to stay within sharply-limited boundaries so as to not cause suspicion.

I’ve always moled from a computer not this one, and from places with different internet service providers than my own.  And so as to not excite interest, I’ve never used any of the features of Skins’s island, such as “search” or looking up a member.  And the mole stays away from the cooking and baking forum, and avoids the closed meta forum as much as possible, so that back out here in real life, I don’t unwittingly betray that I’ve been moling.  Also, any mole I use tends to shun primitives prominently featured here in the DUmpster.

The sparkling old dude or Atman, for example, wouldn’t know franksolich’s mole from Adam, because franksolich’s mole assiduously avoids them when on Skins’s island.  But again, at the risk of giving too much information, a long time ago, the mineral oil primitive, Mineral Man, almost nabbed my prize mole, but it pleased God that I narrowly escaped the snare.

The last thing a mole wants is attention; there was one time a couple of years (or more) ago that my mole posted what seemed to me a fairly innocuous, even boring, topic, about abortion.  But for reasons still unfigured-out by me, the campfire attracted a lot of attention, the primitives rolling and writhing in frenzied ecstasy, in unfettered joy and moaning orgasm.

Ooops.  After that, I sharply pulled in the reins.

franksolich’s moles exist simply for the purpose of gathering information, collecting data, on the primitives, much as a professional anthropologist observes hidden behind the bushes.

And as such, I think the primitives’ paranoia about moles is exaggerated, out of line.  Most moles are just quietly minding their own business, causing no trouble at all.  I fail to see why the primitives are so worried.

One of the things they hate most is the sure knowledge that their "juries" and their "MIRT" liquidation squad are both thoroughly infested with quietly serving moles.

All one has to do is spend a little time in The DUmpster to see the extent of their infestation.

I've served on many juries.
They have reason to be concerned. Moles are everywhere.  :yahoo:

Whoa.

I wasn't aware that lurkers can't see poll results; I thought it was public, but apparently not.

Too bad for the primitives.

Voted yes, the paranoia's way overblown.

There is absolutely nothing too worry about, your juries and MIRT are completely safe.  :whistling:

I want to know why I've been on so many juries if there are hundreds of thousands of registered members at DU.

I mole, but I also troll on a low level...just enough to give the DUmmies heartburn but I have not had a single post hidden.

Yeah, that's a lot easier way to rack up the posts, rather than sticking with the Poor Stupid Beth approach of LOL this and LOL that.

no, the primitives have good reason to be concerned

Their jury system is compromised. It's hard to get a fair trial.

Your mole need to propagate. I've had two moles on the same jury. One voted to hide it and one voted to let it be.

I also had to pick number 5.

Just think about it. They've got a mole, who I'll only call Pubber because I told him I wouldn't use his mole name, with over 50,000 posts. Before Pubber and I had the falling out he used to email me every couple of days laughing at how impotent and ignorant they are.

I voted no, it's not as if moles are all over MIRT:

We are now accepting new volunteers to serve on the MIR Team from January - April 2013.

Volunteers who wish to help keep DU running smoothly should consider joining the Malicious Intruder Removal Team (MIR Team). The role of MIR Team members is simple: they are empowered to revoke the posting privileges of people who show up at DU with the intent to disrupt.

Members of the MIR Team are provided with tools to delete spam posted by people who have had their posting privileges revoked, but they are NOT responsible for removing community standards violations, locking threads, or dealing with violations of DU's Terms of Service wherever they may occur.

If you are a DU member with at least six months of membership, at least 1,000 posts, and proof of identity (ie. you are a Star member) then you can apply to be a member of the MIR Team. (Please note that if your Transparency page is displayed, you are disqualified from serving on the MIR Team.)

How do I apply?

Simple: just post in this thread to let us know that you'd like to give it a try, and you could be selected by the Admins. There is no application form to fill out, and no confidentiality agreement to sign. MIR Team members do not have access to any privileged information about other DU members.

We plan to introduce the new MIR Team on Thursday January 24.

For much more information about the MIR Team, click here!

go for it.

I have only been on a few juries and my mole lays low for months at a time.  I guess you could say I am not a great mole because I tend to argue with some of the OPS but only just enough to get the fire going even more.  Or maybe I am a great mole and just don't know it.

I wanted to throw a little deception their way, and select Option 1, but I thought about it, and DAT convinced me that Option 5 was the way to go.

Just as a sidebar to this, deception is a strong weapon against the DUmb****s, and the Left in general.

Oh--BTW, I could never mole . . . :whistling:
