Soooo...is it just me or has the DU turned into a major freak show since the election?
Cause like every time I log in lately there are multiple threads from fairly new posters that are just BATSHIT. I have also found that I am getting called for Jury Duty a lot more frequently. Now, don't get me wrong, I kind of enjoy serving on the Jury. But here lately I have seen some posts that I felt should have been removed that I was out voted on. They were from new members and really felt like flame bait.
I dunno. It is just starting to feel a little bit like the inmates are running the asylum these days. I can remember when a good many of the posts on the front page of the GD would NEVER have been allowed to stand. And I remember them fondly.

1. I don't think so. I think the gun posts all over the
place are what's making it look like a freak show.

2. Yes. The re-election of Obama created a "first" for DU to deal with
The campaign mode of attacking ultimate enemies didn't have a big change to be channeled into after the election.
So people, unable to escape the binary simplicity of the election, just turned their fire from Romney to other DUers.

10. I'm wondering if it has to do with the sudden turn of events with gun control laws since Newtown.
The gunners have become inflamed since that atrocity, more agitated, more antagonistic. It's no wonder. The NRA membership is one big boil on our national ass, IMHO. Why wouldn't they target DU as a place to spew their poison?
Yeah,the hundreds of pro gun threads every day is just too much to take.

23. This place is turning into a shithole -
I get the sense that the Owners have all but abandoned this site as a serious political endeavor and left it on "autopilot" to move on with their lives. So, yes, the inmates are INDEED running the asylum.
The vast majority of the folks who were serious about politics and came here for information and activism have moved on or been TOSed. DU is no longer a place to engage in making political change, though some here are still trying valiantly. For those folks I am thankful and they are what keep me here.
They have taken your money fools and now laugh at you like we do.

25. LOL - three threads today made me literally laugh or giggle
out loud. And these are threads started by longtime members.
It's almost like, for their own narcissistic satisfaction of the need for self-aggrandizement, people go around starting 'extreme' threads on the topic du jour. Last month, it was rape, This month, guns. Almost as if to scream, "PAY ATTENTION TO ME!"
Next month, the topic du jour will be something else, for sure. Because while current events change, mental dysfunction does not (without treatment, obviously). I mean that as no disparagement of those who have mental dysfunctions.
