'Crabs' Now Endangered Thanks to Bikini Waxing (80% of US college students remove pub hair)

(Newser) – Will we soon see a "Save the Pubic Lice" campaign? The groin-dwelling insects, more commonly known as "crabs" because of their shape, are now basically an endangered species—and doctors think the popularity of bikini waxing may be to blame (er, thank). In Australia, no women have been seen with crabs at Sydney's main sexual health clinic since 2008, and male cases have fallen 80% over the past 10 years. "Pubic grooming has led to a severe depletion of crab louse populations," says a medical entomologist. "You can see an environmental disaster in the making for this species."
 
Of course, no one's really mourning the loss. Another medical entomologist notes that, in this case, "habitat destruction is a good thing." So-called Brazilian waxes, in particular, are seen as contributing to the downfall of pubic lice, since nearly all the pubic hair—the habitat, in this case—is removed in that procedure. All in all, more than 80% of US college students remove some or all of their pubic hair these days, Bloomberg reports. It's arguably a nicer way of dealing with the crabs problem, since the typical treatment is a topical insecticide.

I really don't think a grown woman's body can ever be mistaken for a little girls hair or not. Hair is not what makes a woman a woman.  Plus it's a false premise to begin with considering grown women also have leg and underarm hair too. Just a wee bit of inconsistency there unless one is a hippie or French. Both?

I didn't say that there weren't any other distinctions, just that that one I don't care for, so it's kind of a dumb question.  Shave it, sculpt it, or get gang tats on it if you want, it doesn't matter to me since I'll never see it.  Wouldn't a grown man wearing a diaper but otherwise normal-looking creep you out?

Really? My ex-wife and my girlfriend now both kept and keep theirs like that and I never mistook either of them  for little girls! I think alot of folks do it for a number of reasons having nothing to do with some pedophillic fantasy. I understand if its not for you but I really dont think it has anything to do with  either wanting to look like or wanting a little girl.

I'm with toast. Apple and oranges there. If shaving other areas of a woman's body is not creepy to you then that shouldn't be either. A grown woman's hair naturally grows full in those places too. That's the fair comparison so the issue is yours if you have an issue with one and not the other. I'm not the one with the consistency issue here nor is shaving like this some kind of extreme sexual deviation but nice try. I'm not the one being fanatical here; I merely pointed out that a grown woman has other distinguishing factors and most grown women also shave other area of their bodies in a similar fashion and it doesn't cause such a bluster. Tits don't shrink to childlike proportion because a cooch is shaved. The area itself doesn't revert to that of an immature child. The woman doesn't become less aggressive and childlike.

Put that issue aside most women I know who shave do it for the same reason they shave other areas of their body. It just is a personal grooming issue and nothing more. Most gals I know did not and do not do it at the behest of their sexual partners so there goes that too.
