I saw my stepmom almost shoot my father in the head with a pistol. Saw the bullet hole in the closet door every time I was there until they divorced and sold the house. She was a damn mean drunk. I still wouldn't want anyone storming into their house and taking their gun away. Keep her away from booze and she was just a bitch but not dangerous.

Not to be outdone...

One has to be cautious, and somewhat skeptical, when reading the primitives' depictions of their parents.

There's no doubt there's been bad parents in the world, but pause to remember that the primitives like to blame their own flaws, their own problems, on other people, and now-deceased parents provide a handy whipping-boy.

I wouldn't say all the primitives' descriptions of their "bad" parents are inaccurate, but I'm guessing many are, and even the ones that are reasonably accurate, are hyped up somewhat.

That's the way primitives are.

When I was 10 years old, my Dad tried to strangle my Mom in a drunken fit. He had her on the floor. Mom was turning blue. No time for me to call 9/11. I grabbed a kitchen knife, put it to his back, telling him I would kill him if he didn't let her go. He got up, looked at me, and ran out of the house. Mom refused to press charges against him, although all the family said she should. Dad never hit her after that. However, he continued the drinking and gambling. They just went their separate ways while living in the same house. They did not talk to each other from that day on. So much for a child being in a home with a biological mother and father. Yeah, IF they are LOVING.

She was 6 in 1954. That means 10 in 1958.

9-1-1 wasn't widespread until the 70-80's.

Maybe she typed that to relate the equivalent (operator). But I doubt it. BS on this one.
